December 14, 1935 THE TWIG PAGE THREE Athletic News The interclasB hoclwy season was concludod recently by Ihe aophoniores’ winning tlie series. The coveted liockey cup thia year goes to the aoph- oniore class. Members of the team are: Eleanor Rodwell, Ernestine Neighbors, Jean Davla, Wilba Mills, Margie Thomas, Kilton Peele, Vivian Buffttloe, Betty Claire Jonninga, Lu cille Davis, and Harriet Rose, captain, Several members from this team 'went to St. Mary’s for a hockey play day recently. The members of the recently chosen varsity hoclcey team are: Offense— Kat Liles, Bleanor Uodwell, Harriet Rose, Lettle Logan Hamlett, and Mar tha Messenger; substitutes, Catherine Canady, and Dot Willson. Defense—Sallie B. Privette, Wilba Mills, Lucille Davis, Pinky Davis, Jean Davis, and Kliton Peele (goal); substitutes, Cora Lee Mills and Mary Jane Lindley. The hockey stick, which is given each year to the most outstanding freshman goes to Sallie B. Privette, of Goldsboro. The season on the whole was very successful, and Meredith is now a member of the U. S. Field Hoclcey As sociation. Horseback riding continues to be a favorite sport at Meredith. Aided by the Athletic Association, Mr. Arthur Cavell is having a riding ring con structed for the benefit of beginning riders. He plans also to tcach more experienced riders how to jump and do fancy ridlag.
