December 12,1936 AN INTERVIEW WITH TEACHING SENIORS By MILDBEH ANN CRITGHER For the last few weeks some of the seniors have been practicing their wite and abilities In teaching in the Baleigh public schools. Hearing their rebellion, “If I ever get through with this mess!”, or just mild, "It’s more fun”! tbe rest of us are to consider such an enterprise aa an unexciting undertaking. But, agreeably or dis agreeably, it has proved quite different. It seems that a great many of them can't get through those tedious weeks without eminent peril to their own dignities. The little ones with sunny curls and shy srolles have often been mistaken tor students. Long walks In the rain to other entrances and reprimands for loitering in the halls have been the outcome of these girls’ inability to look their age. Classroom incidents have gone a little beyond the dull and added zest to the ordeal. One girl vainly argued with a little boy for an hour, trying to make him believe it was cold at the South Pole. He contended that that’s where the sun is. Another, reproving a: youngster for mild profanity, was met with, "Yes, Ma’am, I swear I'll never do it again.” Margaret Kramer, with profuse blushes stood helplessly before her class, while they constantly misconstrued the meaning of her really quite proper questions. But local color ahonc brightest in the hearts of the high school boys. The girls passed through the school halls to meet, modestly, the winks and nods of the many young Romeos, by whom they were regularly beselged in the afternoons after class. Dates and dainties swamped . them, and every day, coursing toward the bus stop, they had their books borne for them. One was greeted, upon a call for questions in Latin, with a bold statement ‘‘Ego amo te." which, though inroporly dismissed, was brought up again after class with the audacious Inquiry, “Did you know what I meant?'' But much of our bewitching talent was manifested lu Aimabello Hollowell, whose dimples and curls Inspired an amorlstic lyric from one of her pupils, who offered it for pub lication in the school paper.
