Polk of Warrenton. are among the other speakers. The membership of the associ' a(ion is composed of those who arc interested in literary and historical activities. The meetings are open and all interested stU' dents are urged to attend. The Society for the Preserva tion of Antiquities, the State Art Society, and the Folk-Lore Society meet in Raleigh the same week. Dr. C. Library Acquires New Volumes • This year over a hundred new books have been added to the li brary. Many of these arc refer ence books for the diiferenc de partments, hut among them are some of the newest fiction, travel and biography with which every girl will want to be acquainted, The following books will be found on the rental shelf: Mountain Mefldowt. by John Buchan, which is the story of a man who was given a year to livejTfie Keys of the Kingdom, the newest novel of A. BSU Council Elects Reporter Lucillc Haywood, of Mount Gilead, S, C%, was elected by the Meredith Baptist Student Union Council.on November i to serve as Council Reporter for the year. She will assume her duties im mediately. '' Lucille is a member of the junior class, having transferred to Meredith ftoni Mars Hill this fall. While at Mors Hill she was a member of the Y, W, A. Coun cil, and is likewise a Y. W. A. circlc leader at Meredith. Election of members to the Bap tist Student Council has now been completed, with the exception of the Freshman Representative who will be nominated by the Coun cil and elected by the class within the next few weeks. QLAS& Three Recitals Presented Here Several member of the Mere dith College music faculty have recently >been presented in short recitals during one morning chapel period. The first was an organ recital presented on October 27 by Dr. Harry E. Cooper, head of the music department. Dr. Cooper played the following numbers: Toccato on "From Heaven High,” Edmundson; Sch’*zo by Vierne; Concert Study, by Yon; and Pas torale by Woch. The second recital in the series was prejented on October 29 by Mias Ethel Rowland, head of the Voice department. Her selectiona for the morning follow: InquesCa Tomba Oscura, Beethoyen; Ich grallc Vicht, Schumann; The Lit tle Silver Ring, Chaminade; The Hills of Grozia, MednikofF; Aria "O Love Lend Thine Aid" from Samson and Delilah by Saint- Saens. Miss Rowaind was accom panied at the piano by Mr. Charles La Mond. The last recital was presented on Wcdne^ay m'ornihg, Novem ber f, by Edgar and Dorothy Aid en, violinists. Included on their program were:''Adagio and Alle^ gretto from Serenade by Sinden cy; Nocturne by Edgar Aldeh: and The Blue Danube by Strauss. Miss Dorothy Phelps played the accompaniments. The Monogram Club is investigating the possibil ities of having a Red Cross in structor come, to Meredith and give the Red Cross First Aid Course .to those interested. This course will be given twice weekly from four to six in th? afternoon for a period of five weeks starting right after first se mester examinations, Those wish ing to take the course see Vir ginia Lancaster, president of the Monogram Club. In order to give this course Meredith must have twenty peo ple who will promise to take it. Other colleges are doing their share toward national defense. Let us get behind the plan and do ours. Sociolog^y Club Meets October 16. The Meredith Sociology Club held its monthly meeting in the Blue Parlor Thursday evening. Those reporting were Mary Elia- aheth Holloway, Rachel Fulton^ and Evelyn Dillon. Following this the meeting was adjourned and there was a short social hour.
