This change in plans has been made because of the lack of sufficient \ns of transportation for the proposed picnic, No arrangements have been disclosed by Rachel Lovelace, president of the Junior class. M. Broughton Gives Party For Meredith Girls Dr. Julia Hamlet Harris intro duced the receiving line at the tea by which Mrs. J. Melville Brough ton honored the faculty and seniors of Meredith, Peace, and Saint Mary’s on Saturday afternoon April 25, in the Governor's Man sion. In the receiving line after Mrs, Broughton were: Dr. Carlyle Campbell, president of' Meredith Be Crowned In Ceremony Today Miss Frances Buchanon Is Event’s Leader The May Queen for this May Day, May, 2, 1942, is Miss Fran ces Buchanon of Laurinburg, N. C. Miss Buchanon, who is to be. crowned in the usual Meredith cer emony, will be dressed in a gown of white and will carry the Mere dith flower, purple iris. Her dress is made with a white lace bodice .ind a full net skirt with white lace insets. Miss Betty CLngan of Cov- inton, Va., is the maid-of*honor to the May Queen. She is wearing an aqua evening dress with an aqua fitted bodice with white organdy embroidered insertion. The skirt is very -full marquisette with a slight train. The attendants are all to be dressed in yellow pi que dresses with lace insets. This is a departure from the usual cus toms, in that the attendants ordi narily wear various pastel colors, each class choosing a different shade. The two attendants from the senior class arc Mrs. Arini's Hines Hooke of Raleigh, N. C., and Miss Viriginia Gilliland of Macon, N. C.; the two attendants from the Junior class are to be Mim Elizabeth Riggs, of Durham, N. C,, and Miss Adelaide Bunker of Mt. Airy, N. C. The Sophomore cUiss chose as their attendants Miss Juncle Tell Baker of Delmar, Del aware, and Miss Elizabeth McNeil Ilf Elkin, N, C. Miss Betsy Ellen Watson of Fayetteville, N. C., and Miss Laura Ellen McDanicl of Kinston, N. C., are to be the at tendants from the Freshman class. There will be several old Amer ican dances performed by the var ious students taking part. There is square-dance group, a Western dance group, a Mid-Western dance group, and a Southern dance grpup.
