COUNCILS HAVE JOINT MEETING-SOCIAL The combined B.S.U. councils of State and Meredith met Monday hight, November 80 in the hut on the Meredith campus. A supper was followed by separate meetings of the two councils. After the business meetings, the group had a social hour, the main event being a debate upon the topic, resolved, that a woman should get up at 6:00 a.m., and cook breakfast for her husband. The Meredith de baters, Evelyn Hampon and Cornell Brunt, who upheld the negative, were victorious. At the conclusion of the entertainment, punch was served. Special guests were the Reverend and Mrs. Lee C. Training School in Louisville, Kentucky, and Catherine Wyatt is taking a defense course in Architectural Drafting at State Col lege in Raleigh. C,; Frances Parker is a bacteriol ogist at the State Laboratory in Ra leigh, N. C.; Katherine Kerr is an Inter viewer in W. S. Jane Wyche and Doris Jane Bordeaux work in De fense in Wilmington; Virginia Staf ford is a Laboratory Technician at the Butter Cup Ice Cream Company in Hamlet, N. C.; Ethelene Stevens is a Technician at the State Labora tory in Raleigh. Amelia Pruitt and Education Club Meets At State College The Education Club held its regular meeting at Thompkins Hall at State College with the State Education Club Friday night, JJ’ovember 27. Wallace Dickens, President of the State Club, welcomed the Meredith visitors and turned the progi-am over to Gloria Watson, Meredith presi dent. The program of the night was a debate—Resolved; All senior colleges should be co*educational. Upholding the affirmative, side were Suzanne Bagnal and Rose Marie Haynes of Meredith and speaking for the negative were Jesse Sumner and Henry Dameron of State. Judges were Miss Lila Belle and Mr. Harry K. Dorsett of the Meredith Education Department and Profes sor Cook of the State Education De partment. Their decision was that there was a tie. After the debate, songs were sung, games were played, and refreshments were served by the State club. Also a contest was held by Mr. Dorsett to see which girls knew the most boys present and which boy knew the most girls present. The winners, Kathleen Clarke and Gerald James, received theater tickets. A Deke took his aunt out riding, Though icy was the breeze. He put her in the rumble seat. To see his anti-freeze. —Selected. Harrill, president of the General Meredith Aluninoo As sociation, was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Grand daughters Club on N’ovenibcr 23. Mrs. Harrill, who was introduced by Evalyn Allen, the program chairman, spoko on “Inward Joy.” One guest, Mrs. Ralph Howland (Margaret Shields Everett), the daughter of a trustee and graduate of the first class, was introduced by Miss Mae Grimmer, club spoixsor. Special tables Avere provided in the dining hall for the members’ din ner. Immediately following dinner. Miss Grimmer honored Mrs. Harrill and Mrs. Howland at an after-dinner coffee hour in the Faculty Parlor. CofFee was poured by Miss Anna May Baker, and she was assisted by stu dents. Two Juniors Chosen By Silver Shield Charlotte Green of Ogbomosho, Nigeria, West Africa, and Virginia Ayers of Toccoa, Georgia, were this week taken in to the Silver Shield Honorary Society. These were the two juniors chosen to be admitted to the society this fall. Five more junior girls will be taken into the organization next spring. Eligibility for this honor depends on leader ship, service to the school, and Christian character. These two juniors were selected by the mem bers of the society from a group approved by the faculty. The officers of the organization this year are Rachel Lovelace, pres ident; Evelyn Hampton, vice pres ident; and Elizabeth Brownlee, secretary. The three other members of the society are Mattie Irene Baugh, lone Kemp Knight, and Carolyn Duke. Choir Presents Annual Program 92 Voices To Sing Christmas Music The Meredith College Choir will give its annual Christmas program on the evening of December 33 at 7:30 o’clock in the college audi torium. The choir of 90 voices will present a program varied by carols, folk-songs, and traditional songs of the season. The invocation will be delivered by Dr. Carlyle Campbell, the scripture will be read by Dr. Norman Price, and Dr. L. E. M. Freeman will deliver the closing prayer. Mary Louise Ott, Richie Harris, Charlotte Greene, and Lucille Haywood took part on the program. A sketch of the life and work of Emily Dickinson was given and some of her poems were i-ead. At the next meeting, which will be December 11, Mrs. R. L. McMillan will speak about authors she has known. This meeting will be held in the Browsing Room at 7 o’clock. can Bt44f.
