May 20, 1949 THE TWIG Page five By Joanne Mason ® The members of the Music Department, faculty and stu dents both, are still wandering around in a daze of recitals, flowers, and receptions. What a week it was, but all of us enjoyed it, except, perhaps, the perform ers themselves. Chamber Music Concert On May 5, the Chamber Music class presented one of the most interesting student recital pro grams of the year. This class was first offered this semester and was found to be very helpful to the students. The music studied in this class included the import ant chamber works in music of the past and present. For this concert Miss Rosen- berger, the director, played the violin, and Joy Stillwell, Susan Graham, and Virginia Campbell played piano. William Raper, student at State College, attend ed several of the classes and also took part in the program. The following program was pre sented : HOME ECONOMIC NEWS Sonata in B Minor.. Loeillet Largo Allegro Miss Stillwell, Miss Rosenberger, Mr. Raper Sonata in E Minor for Piano and Violin, K. 304 Mozart Allegro „ Miss Graham and Miss Rosenberger Trio in D Minor, Op. 49, ^ , ,, Nq 1 Mendelssohn Andante con moto tranquillo Miss Campbell, Miss Rosenberger, Mr. Raper Sonata in A Major for Piano and Violin, Op. 100, No. 2 Brahms Allegro amabile Miss Campbell and Miss Rosenberger Highlighting their work of the year, the numbers of the Mere dith Home Economics Club had an inspiring candle light cere mony in the hut Thursday, May 5, to install the officers for the coming year. Frances Williams, the incoming president, reviewed the work of the year and ex pressed appreciation to the retir ing officers. For the benefit of the pledges, Elaine Saunders told the signi ficance of the symbol of the club, the Betty Lamp. The initiation of new members followed each one being introduced by one of her senior class friends. The climax of the program was the initiation of the gradua ting seniors into the American and North Carolina Home Eco nomics Associations. The club was fortunate in having as a special guest Miss York Kiker, incoming president of the N.C.- H.E.A., who welcomed the seniors and presented them with membership certificates. Psychology Project Finished By Seniors Garden Tea Seven Meredith College seniors in psychology, under Dr. Dorothy G. Park, head of that department, have completed a project in the field of projective testing which was read in the form of a report by Dr. Park at a meeting of the psychology section of the North Carolina Academy of Science in Chapel Hill on May 7, under the title “Some Relations of Movement Responses to Creativity.” The experiment was con ducted as a part of a larger investigation being pursued in various laboratories over the country under the direction of Dr. Joseph Zubin of New York Psychiatric Institute and Colum bia University. The project re quired the administering of tests to 50 other students at the College, using the Levy Move ment blots, a recent projective test, not yet commercialized, which is a variant of the well- known Rorschach or ink-blot test. One of the purposes of this research is investigation of the differences in movement re sponses to the ink-blot test between so-called “creative” students and non-creative, or average, students. The seven Meredith seniors who participated in the research project were Betty Jean Johnson, Peggy Patrick, Mrs. Lily Oat- field, Osee Mac Johnson, Martha Davis, Shirley Powell, and Natalie Neal. iPrlbble^ and By Micky Bowen * The Meredith Little Theatre has adopted, as a rejuvenation project, a program which will fit its expanding facilities. Next year, instead of regular meet ings, a series of workshops will be held for the benefit of mem bers and pledges. Each commit tee chairman, who will be appointed to serve for all pro ductions, will conduct the work shop in her field, be it costuming, make-up, or staging. Congratulations are definitely in order to the Phis and their whole production staff for a beautiful performance on society night! Winning the cup perman ently is a feat which certainly can’t be topped and will seldom be equaled. Society Night is sponsored each year by the two literary societies of the college, Astrotek- ton and Philaretian, and on this occasion the annual society awards for literary activity will be presented. Mrs. Crisp, who is a native of eastern Carolina and a graduate of Woman’s College, is the author of Spring Fever, and of the recently published Brief Testament. The faculty and student body is invited to the student produc tions of The Glass Menagerie and Whistler’s Mother to be held May 18 and 20 respectively in Phi Hall at 4:00 P.M. The plays are being presented in connect- tions with the course in oral interpretation. Everyone has a spark of drama in him; but when young ladies making an announcement in chapel feel called upon to write a playlet for the occasion, we feel the situation is really brightening. You know, there’s nothing like showmanship. ADVANCE APPLICATIONS A total of 174 new dormitory students have applied for admis sion to Meredith for next year.
