Apple- bobbing brought vic tory again for the juniors, but cornhuskin’ itself made winners of the sophomores. One of the victories be longs to Chairman Nancy Price, for, spoken clownish ly in carnival atmosphere, her words seemed indicative of the overall Cornhuskin’ spirit; “I really love you all — even the seniors.’’ ^ LOCATEV IN i RJVGEWOOV SHOPPING CENTER i BEHINV NEREVITH COLLEGE § Phone S32-7995 S JuiUo-’i SpufitiLvean. Has the man elected on a promise to end the war broken faith with the American people? Can the A- merican people stomach the war now that the color of the bodies has changed? Has the sense of moral outrage over napaiming and bombing been exhausted? Do the nominations of Carswell and Haynesworth to the highest court mark a planned retreat from the com mitment to racial justice? Is the bugging of Democratic Na tional Committee Headquar ters symptomatic of an emer ging Orwellian nightmare? Has the Nixon administration sold out to big business? And what of the Senator from South Dakota? Will his eco nomic proposals bankrupt the economy? Do the Eagleton fiasco and the “refining” of the proposals of the pri maries portend a presidency based on vacillation? Will Mc Govern, by reducing the mili tary budget, diminish the dip lomatic flexibility of theU.S.? Invite agression? Pave the road to war? The questions are, of cour se, loaded. There are few simple answers. But remove the vituperation and the in flated promises and four facts are clear; First; the candidates vying for the presidency differ wide ly in Ideology and outlook. The potential voter cannot sit this one out on the grounds that the choice is between tweedle dum and tweedle dee. Second; the new voter who refuses to cast a ballot is shirking the responsibility which he claimed he deserv ed. To refuse to vote or to vote casually is to solicit the disgust of those who demand ed the 18 year old vote. It is also to invite the smuggest “I told you so“ in history from the cynics and the scep tics. Third; the college student cannot choose to remain un affected by the direction of na tional leadership. If a presi dent of the United States chooses to tolerate unem ployment and underemploy ment, for example, the Ph. D. of today will continue to be the cab driver of tomorrow, and students with B.S.’s and B.A,’s will continue to pour into secretarial pools and fac tories. Fourth; the establishment listens to number. History will record that the young rose up from the college cam puses in search of a leader to end a war they judged immor al. History SHOULD record that the young also managed to sensitize the nation to the need for ecological balance, population control, equal rights for minorities. By re fusing to vote, the student in vites inattention and guaran tees that the interest of the young will not be served. The message is clear. An important choice must be made. Those who use the bal lot November 7 will partici pate in making it. Those who boycott the ballot box will succeed only in ripping them selves off. The message is simple. VOTE. (reprinted from the National Voter Registration Drive) Jerry Rubin discusses the youth stand with a delegate at the past Democratic Convention. He and others are stressing the import ance of the youth vote in the upcoming election. * RALEIGH’S ONLY PAR 3 * FULL PRO SHOP SERVICES * LIGHTED FOR NIGHT PLAY * SNACK-SANDWICHES-BEVERAGE BRING A DATi: AND TIT; OFF TOGETHIH?
