Fifteen new faculty
added to staff this
Dr, William Bradley Turpin
of Pfeiffer College has been
appointed chairman of the
department of psychology at
Meredith College. Seven other
full-time and seven part-time
appointments have been an
nounced by Dr. Allen Burris,
vice president and dean of
Meredith,
Dr. Turpin has been an
associate professor of
psychology at Pfeiffer College
since 1971. He received his B. A.
from the University of Virginia,
his M. A. at Princeton
University and his Ph.D. from
the University of Alabama, His
area of specialization is
cognitive development. His wife
is a pediatrician and moved her
practice from Albemarle to
Raleigh in July. The Turpins
have one son.
Dr. Allen Freeman Page
has joined the Meredith faculty
as an assistant professor in the
Department of Religion and
Philosophy. Page received his
B. A. from Wake Forest
University, His M. Div. from
Union Theological Seminary
and his Ph. D. from Duke
University where he was a
visiting scholar in religion and
culture in the fall of 1972. He is
married to Dr. Sally R. Page,
assistant professor of English
at Meredith. They have two
children.
Dr. James Eric Wiechert
has joined the chemistry and
physics department as an
assistant professor. He
received his B, S. from Eastern
Illinois University, and his Ph.-
D. from the University of
Tennessee where he was a
teaching assistant. Before
coming to Meredith, Weichert
was assistant professor of
chemistry at Brevard College.
He and his wife. Lea, have two
children and live in Garner.
In the education depart
ment, Dr. Kenneith Harbison
Calvert is assistant professor.
Born m Cullman, Ala., Dr.
Calvert received her B.S. from
Jacksonville State University,
and her M. A. and Ed. D. from
the University of Alabama. She
has taught in public schools for
16 years and served as reading
consultant and coordinator of
the N.C. Right to Read
Program with the N.C.
Department of Public In
struction this past year.
In the music department.
Dr. Peter Ballard Klausmeyer
is a full-time instructor.
Klausmeyer received his A. B.
from Cornell University, and
hisM.M.andA. Mus.D. degrees
from the University of
Michigan where he was a
teaching fellow.
A full-time instructor in
sociology, Eugene Murphy
Sumner received his B. A. from
Atlantic Christian College, his
M.Div. from Southeastern
Baptist Seminary, and his
M.S.W. from UNC-Chapel Hill,
Sumner was assistant
superintendent of the Free Will
Baptist Childrens Home in

Middlesex from 1969-1971 and is
a native of Duplin County. He
will also plan and coordinate
the Human Services Program
at Meredith.
Joining the foreign
language department as a full
time instructor in German is
William Wallace Finlator, Jr.
He received his B, A. from
Wake Forest University, his
M.A. from the University of
Pennsylvania, and is presently
a Ph.D. candidate at Yale
University. He and his wife,
Silke, reside in Raleigh.
Finlator is the son of the Rev.
W. W. Finlator, pastor of
Pullen Baptist Church in
Raleigh.
Michael Ross Dodge has
joined the faculty as an
assistant librarian. He received
hisA.M.L.S. and M.A. degrees
from the University of
Michigan. Dodge is a native of
Ann Arbor, Mich. He and his
wife, Jane, live in Raleigh.

Mrs. Erika Fairchild, in
structor of political science
here at Meredith, left on
Wednesday, September 5, to
attend the yearly meeting of the

A 1947 graduate of Meredith,
she received her M.S.H.E. and
Ph.D. degrees from the
University of North Carolina at
Greensboro. Dr. Wall and her
husband, Percy, a Greensboro
attorney, live in Greensboro.
Douglas McCreary
Greenwood, a part-time in
structor in the Department of
English, received his A.B,
degree from Dartmouth
College, his M.A. at
Georgetown University, and is
presently a Ph.D. candidate at
UNC-Chapel Hill. He is married
to Suzanne Reynolds Green
wood, a 1971 alumna and
director of foundation relations
at Meredith. The Greenwoods
live in Chapel Hill.
A part-time instructor in
the Department of Health,
Physical Education and
Recreation, Mrs. Suzanne
Drake Crigler received her B.A.
at UNC-Chapel Hill. She and her
husband, Norris, live in
Durham where he is a student
at Duke Medical School.
William F. Irish has joined
the Department of Business and
Economics as a part-time in
structor. Irish received his B.S.
and M.S. degrees from Montana
State University. He lives in
Cary.
Mrs. Carolyn G. Jarmon is
a part-time instructor in the
home economics department.
Born in Wilmington, Del., she
received her B.S.H E. from the
University of Delaware and her
M.S. from Cornell University
where she was a graduate
assistant. She and her husband,
Randall, a captain in the U.S.
Army, live in Fayetteville.
A new faculty member in
the music department, Mrs.
Patricia Greene Long, a part-
time instructor, received her
A.B. at Meredith College and
her M.C.M. at Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary.
Last year she worked as
minister of music at James
Island Baptist Church,
Charleston, S.C. Married to
James C. Long, minister of
education and administration at
First Baptist Church in
Raleigh, the Longs have four
children.
Dr. Stewart Albert
Newman has joined the
Department of Religion and
Philosophy as a visiting lec
turer from Campbell College,
He received his A.B. from
Hardin Simmons University
and his Th.M. and Th.D.
degrees from Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary.
He and his wife, Sara, reside in
Buies Creek.
Dean of Students Office
makes three additions

American Political Science
Association which was held in
New Orleans last week at the
Jung Hotel. She was a par
ticipant on a Public Law’ panel
titled “Sanctions and Sanc
tioning Policy.” Mrs. Fairchild
has done research on prisoners
in the field of criminal law.
Three appointments in the
dean of students office at
Meredith College for the 1973-74
academic year have been an
nounced by Dr. Marie Mason,
dean of students.
Mrs. H. Glenn White, Jr. of
Raleigh has been appointed
assistant dean of students tor
campus life. Miss Elizabeth
Wilson of Albemarle as coun
selor, and Mrs. Lois Renfrow as
resident advisor.
Mrs. White was dean of
students at Peace College for
four years and an admissions
counselor for one before she
joined the staff at Meredith. She
also taught in the Raleigh
Public Schools for five years
and served as a guidance
counselor for two years.
At Meredith, Mrs. White
will be advising all campus
student related associations
and will serve as dean of
students in Dr. Mason’s ab
sence.
Dr. Gloria H. Blanton,
associate professor in the
psychology department at
Meredith College, is one of
three women appointed by the
Board of Directors of the
American Association of
University Women to serve on
the Fellowships Program
Committee during the 1973-74
biennium. The committee
meets in Washington and
develops policy for all aspects
of the program.
Miss Blanton is program
vice president of the Raleigh
Branch of AAUW and
legislative program chairman
for the North Carolina State
Division.
Income from the
fellowships endowment of $74
million, together with current
funds, resulted in more than 100
fellowship grants to American
women and 50 to international
women for 1973-74.

She received her A.B. and
M.Ed. degrees from UNC-
Chapel Hill. Her husband is
president of White Oil Company
in Raleigh. Mrs. White is a
native of Mount Olive and is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. H.
Daughtery of South Chapel
Road.
Miss Wilson is the first full
time student counselor on the
dean of students staff at
Meredith. She received her A.B.
and M.Ed. degrees from UNC-
Chapel Hill and previously
taught French in Albemarle for
two years.
Miss Wilson is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Wilson of
807 Pee Dee Avenue,
Albemarle.
Mrs. Lois Renfrow who has
served as administrative
secretary to the president at
Meredith for 20 years, will
serve as resident advisor in
Brewer Hall and part-time
secretary to the president.
She served as ad
ministrative secretary at
Meredith under the ad
ministrations of Presidents
Carlyle Campbell, E. Bruce
Heilman, and John E. Weems.
Formerly, she was co
owner and business manager
for a weekly newspaper in High
Point with her husband, the late
Wade P. Renfrow.
Mrs. Madge Dillard, for
mer secretary to Governors
Luther Hodges and Dan K.
Moore and Rep. Nick
Galifanakis, will serve as ad
ministrative secretary to the
president on a full-time basis.
Mrs. Dillard is married to
O.H. Dillard and they have four
children. During the past year,
Mrs. Dillard served as
secretary to the director of
continuing education at
Meredith.
Mrs. H. Glenn White, Jr., new assistant dean of students, welcomes
all students to her office in Johnson Hall.
