Meredith College adds a vocational focus to its liberal arts approach to education this year with the implementation of a Human Services Program and a bachelor of science degree program in business administration. “We are continuing to put major emphasis on our liberal arts program,” said Dr. Allen Burris, “but we are now trying to add vocational focus in a more direct fashion. Our educational thrust is basically the same but students may now receive specific assistance toward a vocational area.” The Human Services Program will be under the direction of Eugene Sumner, sociology instructor. Sumner will plan and coordinate the program that could provide students of any academic discipline with entry-level skills into the labor market. Under the bachelor of science degree program in business administration, women would be encouraged toward and prepared for movement into the business management field.
