J Page 2 THE TWIG September 20, 1973 THE TWIG MEREPITH COLLEGS New regulation affects litter The SGA executive committee is now taking action on the litter problem on campus. New bulletin boards will be posted in the cafeteria and student center for signs and announcements. The displaying of announcements in the classrooms and between the breezeways IS NOW PROHIBITED. This regulation should bring about a much - appreciated change. Everyone has seen the results of signs and posters forlornly hanging about the breezeways long after the designated event has past. The court and surrounding areas are often badly littered after even a light rain or wind, which brings down half the signs. Now the announcements may only be posted on the bulletin boards in Johnson Hall, the cafeteria, and the student center. If the organizations and individuals will show a little cooperation, the litter problem will soon diminish. EEH Twig clarifies two job positions The editor would like to correct any false impressions gathered from last week’s article on Meredith’s new assistant dean of students. Mrs. White’s duties were stated to include “all campus student related associations.’’ This is not an accurate rendering of her responsibilities. Mrs. Fran Vandiver, as assistant dean of student activities, is responsible for the student related associations, such as the MRA, MCA, CCA, etc. Mrs. Vandiver serves as overall advisor to these and other student associations. Mrs. White’s responsibility is in the area of campus life that deals with the students’ living situation, i.e. dormitory life. This means that Mrs. White is involved with the various governing bodies such as Legislative Board, Interdorm Board, etc. THE TWIG hopes that this clarifies the responsiblities of the two positions and the editor apologizes for any confusion resulting from the September 13 article. EEH NEWSBRIEFS SYMPOSIUM (Continued from page 1) president, sophomores Allyn Vogel and Rebecca Askew were elected secretary and treasurer, respectively. Playhouse members also heard advisor Mrs. Linda Bamford announce a proposed theater trip to New York over autumn break. Plans for the first semester also include guest speakers and theater trips to local presentations. (Continued from page 1) Because the SYM POSIUM is being sponsored solely for their benefit, there is absolutely no cost or obligation whatsoever to the job applicant. We are urging all job applicants to remit their resumes to this office TODAY, so that we can complete the process of scheduling the interviews in advance of the program. HOW DO YOU THINK MOST PEOPLE YOUR AGE DIE? It’s not drugs. It’s not suicide. And it’s not cancer. It’s automobile crashes. More American people between the ages of 15 and 25 die in automobile crashes than in any other way. At least half of those deaths are alcohol related. And the drunk drivers who cause most of them are under 25. Sometimes, many times, they kill themselves. One of the most dangerous things you can do is get drunk and drive home. You can change it. You have to. You march against the war. You fight for clean air and clean water. You eat natural foods. You practice yoga. You are so much for life. And you are so much against killing. It would be unthinkable for you to wittingly kill another human being. So then, why is this happening? DRUNK DRIVER, DEPT. Y* BOX 1969 WASHINGTON, D.C. 20013 I don’t want to get killed and I don’t want to kill anyone. Tell me how I can help. ‘Youths Highway Safety Advisory Committee. Mynameis- Address.
