Belmont Consort to sing
The Belmont College Consort Singers from Nashville, Tennessee will be on the Meredith campus
next week. The group is directed by Sherry Kelly.
Release from Belmont College
On Monday, November 12
at 10a.m. the Belmont College
Consort Singers will perform
for the Meredith students in
the Rotunda.
The Belmont College
Consort Singers, composed of
sixteen auditioned voices,
have firmly established a
tradition of fine choral singing
in their brief five-year
existence. They present music
from all periods ranging from
Renaissance madrigals and
songs to contemporary jazz.
Many great anthems and
hymns of the church are also
included.
The Consort Singers have
performed in churches and for
other organizations in the
Nashville area. Included in
their 1975-76 season were
appearances on the Belmont
College television special and
on the concert series of the
Friends of Chamber Music. In
October 1978, the Consort
Singers presented a thirty-
minute live program on
Public Radio Station WPLN in
Nashville. The ensemble
made their initial concert tour
during the fall of 1976.
The Singers’ 1979 tour will
take them to churches and
colleges in Tennessee and
North Carolina. They will also
appear at the Regional
Convention of the American
Choral Directors Association
in Knoxville, Tennessee. The
ensemble is under the
direction of Sherry Kelly.
