NOVEMBER 1. 1962 THE TWIG PAGES Parents’ Weekend Plans Meredith has scheduled a variety of activities to celebrate Parents' Weekend Saturday and. Sunday, November 6 artd 7, w^>en the parents visit the campus. “Meredith's Family Reunion; A Southern Tradition" is the theme of the event. Kappa Seventeen new memtiers were inducted Into Kappa Nu Sigma Scholastic Honor Society recently. The fall Induction ceremony took place the Alumni House and Sylvia Hardison, president, presided. The new inductees are Mary Alexander, Leanne Blake, Susan Eason, Margaret Edwards, Martha Ensley, Virginia Gentry, Felicia Godwin, Sara Hart, Beth Hardison, Oebra Highsmith, Meredith’s syncronized swim team, the Aqua Angels, would like to congratulate Lee Betts of the senior class. Lee won a six-pack Igloo cooler raffled off by tlie Aqua Angels. Highlighting Saturday's activities will be a banquet at 6 p.m. in Belk Dining Hall and a dance featuring the Al Granger Quintet playing swing and beech music in Weatherspoon Gymnasium from 8:30-11 p.m. Worship services will be held Nu Sigma Allison Honeycutt, Mary Jean Love, Mary Jane Mason, Kim Robinson, Lauren Startxiard, Karen Slone, and Nancy Whelan. The sophomore scholarship winners are Karen Vald and Lori Elaine Lewis. Lori Finch is the junior scholarship winner. Kappa Nu Sigma takes its name from three Greek words Kailos, Nous, and Sophia, meaning beauty. One hundred and eighty-eight tickets were sold to raise money for the team, and we would like to thank each of you who bought one for your support. in the Christina and Seby Jones Chapel at 9 and 10:30 a.m. anda picnic lunch wili be held in the courtyard at 11; 30 a.m. on Sunday. Following lunch, parents will have the opportunity to see the Meredith production of “The King and I" at 1 p.m. In Jones Inducts soundmindedness and intelligence. The purpose of the society is lo promote scholarship at Meredith and membership is determined by quality grade point ratio. The officers for this year are Sylvia Hardison, president; Susan Davis, vice-president; Susan Britt, treasurer; Mictielle Farrier, secretary; Pam Dickens and Grace Kim, reporters. Also included in Saturday’s activities is open house for meeting the faculty and viewing the newest buildings- constructed on campus, the Christina and Seby Jones Chapel and the Shearon H£..rls Burns by Lori Cowan Nonma Burns, architect and president of Wort^pace, Inc., a design and furniture company for corporations, spoke Tuesday, Oct. 5 in a Delta Mu Delta sponsored meeting. Inavery interesting talk, she spoke al^t owning a small business and the extensive preparation it takes to finance, research, and prepare faclHties before the doors can even l3e opened. In addition, she discussed her relations with her different partners and suggested that the best partners are those who can specialize In different areas of the business. Addressing her talk specifically to women, Ms. ASPA ASPA's last meeting focused on preparing for an interview and featured a film on what to do in interview. Alison Foust nan^ the winners of the Merit Awards which are obtainable on a point basis. Points can be g^ned by anranging company tours, inviting members of the parent chapter to speak at meetings, and doing special projects. Bart>ara Mutschler form the Office of Career Senrlces suggested that ASPA co-sponsor this year's Career Day. ASPA, the Arr>erican Society for Personnel Administration, is a nationwide org^izatlon with chapters alJ over the country. Howell and Tom enjoyed a delightful evening at Sisters' Garden of Eating, compliments of the junior THE Building for Administration, as well as the residence halls. Prior to the Sunday picnic, the Parents’ Association Board of Directora will hold their fall meeting during breakfast in the President's Dining Room. Art work by Meredith students will be on display throughout the weekend in Cate Center. Speaks Bums pointed out that most women have k>een taught to want to be liked, a desire she conskjers a liability In the business world. She advised her audience to, instead, win the respect of others; the objective of a business person Is not making frierxls but establishing conjial working relationships out of which friendships may eventually grow. She also advised would- be professionals to read periodicals in their field and join professional organizations. Directing her speech to Meredith women, Ms. Bums said she hopes more women will consider going into business for themselves. Meets monthly Personnel Admlnistr^or magazine and bulletins updating them on personnel activities nationwide. ASPA meetings, which are held once a nnonth, feature business mien and women from the Ralegh area involved in personnel administration. Cluipter members will also be speaking on personnel administration In the future. This club is open to anyone who Is interested in getting a greater insight into the field of personnel, tf you would like to join, contact Alison Foust at 828-5211. The next meeting will be held Novemt>er 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Brown Conference Room in the Harris Building. Success class. The raffle was sponsored by the junior class to r^dse money for the Junior-Senior Dance to be held in the spring. The raffle ticHats sold for SO cents each.
