PAGE 2 THE TWQ I MAY 2. 1963 EDITORIALS / LETTERS Juniors given fair choice Septembw 1982. Major issue on campus: whether senior portraits should be outdoors or indoors. This issue witiich erupted last fall was an unfortunate one. Seniors, who had voted to have Indoor portraits at the end of their junior year, decided that the majority of their classmates had not been heard and asked for another sunrey. Their request was eventually denied, leaving many in the Class of '83 irate and angiy. Theoretically, It is the editor’s choice what goes into a publication at Meredith. But-most editors know that they are managing a student publication,, and the student voice counts. This past week, rising seniors in the Class of 1984 were given a questionaire on their feelings atxDut the location of senior portraits. If a majority of the class responds.Oafr Leaver editor Leiia Davenport will go along with the over^l preference. Rising seniors should be grateful that they have this chance to express their views and should respond to the survey. The Class of 1983 suffered because a majority did not respond to the survey. Hopefully,, rising seniors will realize the importance of their vote on this heated issue. Oak Leaves editor Davenport should be thanks for her effort In keeping unity between the students and her staff. Hopefully, a lot of possible friction will be eliminated between the two groups next fall, because of her efforts. Rising seniors should remember, the time to let your feelings known is now. Minds cannot bechanged next fall. MLS To the editor Dear TWIQ Editor, Comhuskin’ 1982?...Stun( 1983?...Founder’s Day 1983...? Did these events actually take place, or did we dream them? For sure, these events did take place. I remember taking part In water fights, tmd-1 think: I .can rememt^er the themes' from each class. Yes, I am sure Comhu^in' did, in fact, take place this year. What about the old tradition we know as Stunt? Most definitely, we dkt rtot dream that up, too. As a matter of fact, I am positive that Stunt did occur this year, because I recall a certain Sophomore class that just dominated the entire evening. One week later, yet another historical event t£des place at Meredith College. Could that h^ been Founder’s Day? Yes, it was Founder's Day, yes, we did wear our caps and gowns, and yes, there vras even media coverage. But where was the local TWIQ staff? This question has‘come up over and o\^ agal n as each new TWIG issue comes off the press. Is it too much to ask that the major events of Meredith College be covered in our school newspaper? After all, the purpose of having a news paper is to inform interested parties as to what is going on in the Meredith community. As Meredith students, we love and cherish the traditions that rrtake Meredith College unique. Having been able to go tothelibrary^dtoplckup past issues of theTW/6 has not only been ^joyable but also helpful in any situation that required research. Unfortunately, future students of. Meredith College will be unaware of the traditions that occured during the 1^- 1983 school year due to the lack of information provided by the TWIQ. With any luck at ail, God and the stars above will be by our sides. Our horoscopes will be pointing upward; them maybe, just maybe, there wrill be crook coverage. Because of a shortage of. reporters, the-Tvirig welcomes contributions from students and has often received such contributions from the Senior Class, which have been profvptly -printed. Not all ' Masses const(kr - same items newsworthy however, and the Twig must w^gh this out. If only more students were concerned about Tvirig coverage, perhaps we could have more contributors and r^rlers on our staff. -MLS To the editor: I would suggest to Cynthia Church that if she wants to see changes in the menu schedule, that she go the cafeteria and raise her concern with Mr. Branch. He Is In a much better position to effect that kind of change than the editor or the students. He might respond more positively to a sincere personal'visit than a sarcastic, flip editorial too. But whatever the reason, I know from experience that Mr. Branch would be more than happy to explain why if you’d ask him. I think our food service staff is exc^tlonally good-natured and accomodating. I appreciate their smileS and joking, their attentiveness and willingness to satisfy special requests, (If ever I ne^ anything, always 2 or 3 people stop to ask if I’ve been helped), the way they cheerfully drag everything outside whenever we want a picnic, an the attention given to neatness and attractiveness from an orderly well-stocked salad bar to garnishes on the food.' Sure variety Is nice, but not half as nice as the friendly atmosphere that makes the cafeteria the hub of activity. Food sen/ice staff should be proud of the ©tra effort they make to nneet our needs. We should show our appreciation by expressing our concems CONSTRUCTIVELY, and taking time to give credit for the positive which in this case, outv«ighs the negative.
