Of the 110 students
submitting 465 worits of
drawing, painting, printmaking,
sculpture, photography, and
ceramics, 72 were choosen for
the exhibition. These works
were juried by Doc McCulloch,
visual arts consultant for the
North Carolina Department of
Pubik: Instruction.
“Mr. McCulloch was highly
selective in choosing 72 worths
to be included in the
exhibition,” said Dr. Craig
Green, chairman of the
Department of Art at Meredith.
Ten of the 72 students
displaying art were singled out
for special merit. They include

Cynthia Harper, Kathy Hoffarth,

show purchase award, which is
given by the college, was
awanied to Valerie Streeter for
her four-part silkscreen print,
“Nlghtwatch.”
MuCulloch said, “...the
woris submitted reflect an
impressive standard...I am
impressed with the strength
with the graphics, photogr^hy,
mosaic, and drawing entries.”
The exhibitim may be
viewed Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5
p.m. and on Saturday and
Sunday 2-5 p.m.

Carowinds announces
^Paladium* concerts
CHARLOTTE, N.C.-
Carowinds will start its 1983
Paladium season on Saturday,
April 30 with concerts from top
black soul groups.
Evelyn King, The Fatback
B^ ar>d TheS.O.S. Band will
perform concerts in the
Carowinds Paladium at 3 and 8
p.m.
Evelyn King's current hit is
“Get Loose.” The Fatback Band
has recently released a new
album entitled “Is This The
Future,” andjheir single “This
Giri Is Rne” i's rapidly climbing
the soul music charts. S.O.S.
has been on the album charts
for 21 w^s with their cunent
album "S.O.S. in.”
Tickets are $3 In addition to
Carowinds general admission
of $11.95 and wilt be on sale at
Cevowinds on the day of the
concert.
Other concerts scheduled
for the 1963 Carowinds season
include Joan Jett and the
Blackhearts on May 15, Gene
Cotton, May 21; A Flock of
Seagulls, June 11, Little River
Band, July 23; Rick Jantes,
July 24; America, August 13;
and Dolly Partin, August 17.
Carowinds, now open for
weekend operation, is located
on the North Carolina-South
Carolina border 10 miles south
of Charlotte on 1-77.
