PAGE 2 THE 7WG SEPTEMBER 12. 1983 EDITORIALS / LETTERS Cafeteria changes, improvements welcomed On most college campuses, including Meredith, cafeteria food is most often criticized. In Meredith’s cafeteria this year, several changes have taken place to improve the quality of the service for students. ProtaWy the rrx)st exciting change is the addition of soft drinks to the cafeteria. Although cups are no longer allowed In the dining hall because of the change, the soft drinks are well worth it. A variety of beverages usually makes a cafeteria more ap> pealing to all. Another change is the new entrees which have been added to the menus. Students have more options to choose from this year with the addition of entrees such as Mexican pizza and eggplant lombardi. And r>ot only is the change in entrees good, but the quality of ttie food has also improved. Students should take note of these changes and give praise wtiere praise is due. Also, cor>stnjctive criticism is a good way to let your fe^ings be known to the cafeteria staff. Remember: the cafeteria pn>bably will not cfiange unless you let your opinions on the service be known. Unfortunately, I en countered an uninspiring, hour- long fiasco. TTw organ music, the faculty procession, and the featured speaker's topic were ail quite impressive; however. Dr. Jean Friedman’s classroom style lecture on the foundations of Southern womaihood w^ anything but motivating. I am of the opinion that Scarlett O’Hara’s rebuilding of Tara took great courage, cunnir>g, and strength vtrhich she gained from her beliefs In God and family. Not only did he handle news releases and coordinate the printing of College publicatlor\s, but he also was the official college photographer during his stay here. Tfwks to Mr. Norton, 13 years of our history have been faithfully recorded in excellent photographs. Mr. Norton wlli be a loss not only to The Twig txjt for the entire college.. Dr. Friednw of fered no hope for the future methods with which to cope with the past. After a reasonable round of applause and Dr. Carothers’ benediction, many of the students began to leave before the faculty recessional. This chaotic scene created a question; Did not anyone in form the freshman about FMOtocol for this event? 1 hope that in the future freshmen will be instructed on at least a few more Meredith traditions. In closing, I would like to thank the Convocation Corr»- mittee for a very decent effort- many of the disappointing factors were out of their con trol. I hope my constructive criticism will be takeri in just that manner.
