A family nurse practitioner now lias hours at the infirmary every Wednesday afternoon. She is there from 2:45 to 4:15 and counsels for gynecological problems as weil as birth control. Call the infirmary for an appointment. The Twig will be offering coupons for free food at Le Green house every week. A student and faculty or staff member is chosen each week. Watch the Tw/g- for your name! The Twig has also started giving a list every week of recitals in the music department. These recitals are open to the public free of charge. This is in response to the February 20 Editorial entitled “New P^lng Lot Needed." In my opinion, the problem with the parking situation at Meredith is not the need for another lot. It’s the confusion of policies, lac^ of respect and outright dishor>esty that is causing problems. First of all, it is extremely important, v^n talking about the Student Parting Review Board, to quote procedures and circumstances exactly as they are. Secondly, this is the very first year a screening board of this nature has been given a try. so there have not been any “past few years,” existence. Also, special circumstances do not incKidehavingasickparent and regular visits to the doctor. (Occasionally my mom and dad get sick, and I have had regular medical appointments with the dentist, doctor, orthodontist, etc.) That kind of statement printed in ttie campus newspa per is inconect and will swamp the bewildered Board memtsrs with even more ridiculous let ters. The Board is already over burdened with letters a^ ex cuses that reek of untruth. And I must say that I do not believe that any prospective students are not willing to come to school here because of the parking situation or policies. They usually 1) are not aware, 2) bring their car anyway, or have “daddy" write a letter. This is where the root of the Student Review Botftl's problems lie. Yet, the members of the Board must be unbiased and decide each situation fairly • a pretty trying and time consuming task, let me assure you. Here are the straight facts about the Student Parking Re view Board. It has a chair, a secretary, and one student re presentative from each of the four dasses. They meet weekly to help control the over crowdedness of care parked on campus. Students (freshmen and sophomores) must have parents send a letter explaining the situation, plus have their doctor or employer send a letter outlining office visits - times of work. The Board often asks stu dents to conrte talk to them about their special circum stances for which they feel they need a vehicle. This is also the nvtnner used to appeal Board decisions, (appoval or denial of a request). Another source of the park ing problem is the lack of re spect. One cannot trace it back to a person or persons; how ever, I feel it is not taking such things, as ticketing and signs seriously. We need to respect control measures. One wamir.g ticket for parking in the wrong place at no cost, three more at $5 each, and your car will be towed off to the field until you pay your detits. $15 each time your car is towed.) We also must respect proximity. Our parking lots are a heck of a lot closer to dorms and buildings compared to Carolina, State and Duke. We are very lucky: In the past three years we have been blessed with a newly paved and marked lot, more space, a map to tell us who can p^ where, even lighting around pailting areas was pro vided. Also the Office of Bus iness & Finance informed me that Meredith has planned fi nancially to pave and mark the lower lot behind Barefoot and Heilman dorms. I personally t»lieve every one who owns a car should t>e able to bring it to school with them. But Meredith, at present, can not accomnrKxlate vehicles. We must keep in mind our assets. Another one or two lots would invade the beauty of our campus. So, with ticketing, towing, the Student Parking Review Board, a map, and plans for a paved lot on the way, it seems to me that, for us, all that can ttedone to control or improve is being done. We just need to straighten up our attitudes ansund here. Catherine Cole Women at Meredith , Part III By Kelli Fall( Since my firet article, "Where Are The Women At Meredith Coilege?," I have re ceived numerous corrvnents and letters concerning the arti- de. Every comment has been an agreement to questions raised. Surprisingly, I found that many of Meredith’s faculty were con cerned about tt>e questtons raised in the Feb. 20 issue. After finding out facts eind hearing comments, I have a few conclusions of my own. First, I feei more qualifications are necessary \M>en seleding a Board of Trustee Member. The only qualifications required now are 1) must be Baptist, and 2) resident of N.C. Another re quired qualification should be an “interest and a direct in volvement" with Meredith. I would prefer a trustee to re present me only if the tnjstee was actively involved with the College. The trustee as an indi vidual should visit Meredith more than twice a year. How can they represent us if they cannot relate to us or our cam pus? Secondly, I feei more women should be on the Board. However, 12 won>en out of a total 36 Trustees is a good start. We as women and as stu dents should recognize this poor representation and try to change it. We should remember that times are continually changing and maytK it is time to update qualifications for our Board of Trustees.
