The courtyard was filled with sounds
of cheo^ for big and little sisters. The
freshrnen first entered the courtyard in
the black sweatshirts with “Puttin’ on the
Ritz” on the back. The sophomores then
entered with conductor hats and white
sweatshirts on the front. Dressed in fire
men outfits and leading a dalmation, the
junior class co-chairman led their class,
linked by a fireman’s hose, into the
courtyard.
The air was tense with excitement
awaiting tl% senior entrance. Finally the
seniors entered in a parade of their past
comhuskin' thenws with a cornhuskin'
queen. Kathy IHoffarth, dressed as
George Washington, and Sherri Grad-
ford. as a Abe Lincoln, stepped out of a
special service limo. The seniors sang to
their little sisters, and then everyone ate
the carnival, food provided t)y the Belk
Dining Mall staff.

comer, students are anxtously trying to
decide what classes they want to take.
From those students who are planning to
sign up for a speech or drama class,
questions have been popping up con
cerning the “new teachei','Dr. Creech. I’ve
been asked if he’s a hard teacher. If he’s a
good teac^r, and also if he’s as cute and
ntee as rumors have reported.V^I, as a
student in his ^^eech 225 class this
senftester I can honestly tell you that he is
a good teacher and his classes are in
teresting, but requireatotof work. As for
cute...yeah, he's O.K. He’s also happily
married and the proud father of a six
year old daughter, Rachel. Sorry Girls!
John Creagh is a native of North Carolina
and a graduate of UNC-CH (Where tie met
his wife, Sara.) He received his doctorate
from Louisiana State University.
Besides his family. Dr. Creagh’s
primary Interest belongs to theater.
A&wsU^ teaching schoot-and^Uractlng
plays, he also enjoys acting. His favorite
role and the one which he’s most proud
of was Potonius \r\ Hamlet. (1963) The
play was directed by the World famous
Bary Kyle of the Royal Shakespeare
Company who has a show on Broadway.
Dr. Creagh spent last sumnf>er tourir>g the
South in a Children’s Play “Wiley and the
Hairy Man." This job, as he des^ibed it,
was “a lot of fun and well paying.”
Before teaching at Meredith, Dr.
Creagh also taught speech at UNC for
two years and also taught at Coastal
Carolina Community Coilege (Camp
L^eune, NQ for six years. A look at
nostalgia crosses his face as he recalls
his daysof teaching on the base. “I loved
tt>e student txxly. My classes were SO
percent adult marines. I teamed a lot
from the marines, the/re really
fascinating people.” Unlike the
demonstration speeches that Dr. Creagh
- b«ai94(som-MerB(ilth sHidents« the one»
given by marines covered almost any
subject. “When I assigned demon
stration speeches.! went prepared to hear
anything!”he said with amusement.
Dr. Creegh’s search for a higher
quality of activity led him to Meredith.
"Meredith College is a big ad
justment for me having previously taught
at co-ed and n^e oriented schools.”
Or. Creagh expressed, “Although it's very
different, I take It a lot and am adjusting
well.” He gives credit to the high quality
in the nrusic department for his easy
adjustment. The friendly, supporting,
and hard working faculty members have
been great encouragement for Dr.
Creagh.
Well, girls are you interested in this
new teecher? If so, and you are in
terested in the possibility of taking one of
his courses next semester, Dr. Creagh
will be teaching Fundamentals of speech
i225)andPwtotiiWK»of Literature (9*1),
^orr^y Oral Interpretation.) The latter
course Is his favorite and he hopes to
have a large class with a variety of
people-not just theatre majors. Basically
what speech 941 will try to do Is teach
skills in literary analysis and per
formance skills simultaneously. In the
future, Pr.Creegh hopes to get help with
a show every yeer and get more students
involved in shorter productions that can
be let in their busy schedules.
Dr. Creagh has been busy this
semester working with Emma , by Jane
Austen. This is an example of a group
perfomfUffK» of non-dramatk: literature.
Emma Is performed just as it is written
in Austen's novel, with some deletions to
cut down on time. Dr. Creagh would like
to have some Shakespeare plays at

Weiner...A big success!
Tuesday, November'6th, was a very
exciting day! The president of the United
States was elected, the governor was
chosen and Marc Wiener came to Mere
dith College.
Marc Wiener, a talented young
comedian from New York City, tias
appeared on Saturday Night Live, David
Letterman, and HBO. Wiener and the
V«/ienerettes were the entertalnn^t for
Meredith College's first presidential
election party.
Although the turn out was less than
expected, about 60 students gathered to
cheer their candidates to vk^tory, and to
enjoy Marc Wiener's brand of comedy.
His show consisted of a stand-up routine
in which he used people from the
audience to cany out his jokes. The
Wienerettes were also a pat of his show.
TheWienerettesareagroupof hand pup
pets which can do everything from push
ups to break dancing. His show was
great!
Tuesday night was also a very spe
cial night for Marc Wiener. His parents
were in the audience. They have Joined
him for his tdur of colleges. This Is very
meaningful because this is Marc
Wiener's last college tour. He has nwved
on to bigger and better things. Marc
Wiener will be performing on nxire TV
shows and other entertainment cinjuits.
The program was sponsored by
Concerts and Lectures and CCA. The
party was great fun and very entertaining,
it is a shame more Meredith students did
not enjoy it.
