Tl^ mertch was played Tuesd^, March ig.cn the St. Mary’s carripus. TTie only Angel to score a win in singles was Melinda Wrenn, who defeated the number 6 player from St. Mary's 6-2, 4-6, and 64. Meredith posted a doubles win w4«n Theresa Du^ and Bartera Bulla wiped out Smith and Bur- ton in three sets, 6-4, 4^, and 6-0. In other matches, TT)eresa was de feated by Lynn Burton, 6-2, 6-5 and Bar bara lost to Kathryn Rnney, 6-4, 6^. Ram. Fisher forced Carter Fauber into tt^ pets but carm up short, 2^, 64, and 6-3. Elizabeth Homthal lost to Julie Brady, 6-4, and Laura Cochrane was defeated by Meg Adams, 64, 6-2. Elizabeth and Laura teamed up in doubles but were turned away by Brady and Finney, 60, 6-2. Melinda and fresh man Sara McMillian were defeated by Adams and Allison Helnick, 6-2, 6-1. Meredith 7, Salem 2 Meredith College rebounded from a k>ss just one week earfier to defeat the Salern College tennis team on their court in WnstorvSalem. The win gives the Angels a record of 2-1. The whole testfn had a chance on the court as extra matches were played along with the seeded players. Th^esa Duffy defeated Margaret Mays 6-0, 6-2; Bart»ra Bulla beat Josie Home 6-3, 6-2‘, and Pam Fisher handed Lindsey DeRosa a loss at 6-2, 6-3. In Meredith's only singles loss, Laura Cochrane lost to Nanette deGrot 6-1,6-4. Melinda Wrenn held off Catherine Perry 7-6,6-2, and 6-4, while Dorcas Hostetler camel^k to defeat Sally Anion 4-6, 6-2, and 6-3. The number 1 pair of Theresa and Barttara won over Mays and DeRosa 6-3, 60. Lauraand Dorcas teamed uparKj lost to Honne and deGrot 6-4, 6-4. Parrv and Melinda defeated Amon and Tara Mona ghan 6-3, 7-5. In »tra singles matd>es, Sara Mc- Mllllan beat Jocelyn Rose 6-3, 6-4. Freshman Jessica Perry played hard but lost to Monaghan 5-7, 6-4 and 6-2. Soi^iomore Meshelle Cox defeated for- baraSrong6-5, 6-2. In doubles, Mesh^le and Jessica posted a win over Rose and Waddell 60. 6-4. Ohio U. 9, Meredith 0 Thegirts from the North came to the South with nothing but tennis on ttwir minds. It showed as Ohio University swept a t>ig win over Meredith College, in a match played March 29. The loss gives the Angels a 3-2 record. Theresa Duffy gave in to Cheryl Pro- minski 6-1,6-3 and Bart)ara Bulla played well but canw up short in 6-4, 6-3 deci sion with Polly Gray. Pam Fisher and Eli zabeth Homthal were losses, by an id^ tical score of 60, 6-0, at the rackets of Becky Burkhart and Kathy Maro^r, re spectively. Laura Cochrane was defeated by Erin Burke6-1,6-1 and Melinda Wrenn fought back in the second set but even tually kst to Becky Vuksta 6-0, 7-6. In doubles, Theresa and Baitiara were denied a win by Promin^i and Ma- rosher by a score of 6-3, 6-4. The pair of Laura Cochrane and Dorcas Hostetler losttoBurkheirtandBurke6-0, 6-2. In the closest match of the day, the team of Pam and Kinney could not hold off Gr^^ and Vuksta with a score of 7-6, 04, and 6-1. This week, the Angels are on the road against Greenst>oro College for a match Thursday. The match was played March 28 In Raleigh and marked the A^ els' third victory with just one k>ss. Theresa Duffy easily defeated Kim Melton 6-1, 64 while Bartiara Bulla struggled to put away Debbie Shutt 6-7, 6-3, and 6-1. Pam Fisher posted a win a- gainst Laurie Porteiine 6-2,6-2 and Ell^ beth Homthal d^e^ed Tanwa Swanson 7-5, 6-2. Laura GMhrarw gave up only one game to beat Lee Hadlock 6-1, 64, while Melinda Wrenn gave up none to blank Beth Sweeley 64, 64. Meredith played just as well in the doubles matches. Theresa and Bart>ara put away Melton «ind Shutt 6-2, 64. The team of Kinney Neel and Dorcas Hostet ler won agai nst Portel Ine and Swanson 6- 1, 6-4. The freshman pair of Sara McMil- llan and Jessica Perry defeated Sweeley and Sandra Christie 7-5, 64. Meredith outhits ACC by Usa Britt The Meredith College softbail team tallied more hits than Atlantic Christian College in their doubl^ieeder Mardi 29. Yet, the team had a deficit in the njns column as MC fell short of ACC in both games. Meredith cane from behind in the first game to tie the score but ACC fought off the Angels to win 4-3. In that game, the Angels committed only 2 er rors whteh served to be no factor in the outcome. Meredith had a whopping 12 hits but the Angefs were unable to tum them into runs., In the second game, errors became more of a factor as Meredith corrmitted 8. Their hitting subsided to just 5. The Angels came from behirxl with runners on base but were denied the win by a score of 5-4. Coach Cindy Bross commerKled her team fortheiroutstanding offensive play. “Everyone played well and they play^ well together,” commented Coach Bross, who named the errtire team Offensive Players of the D^! Defensive Player of the Day was fieshman Lou Anne Ste phenson, who played shortstop against ACC. Meredith's record now stands at 24. The softball tean finishes the season with games at Mt. Olive College on April 9, and a rescheduled doubleheader with St. Augustine’s College on the Meredith fieki April 11 at 3:X.
