Department heads and represen
tatives joined approximately 40 Wings
students for a Pot Luck Supper on
September 9th. The supper was
designed to give students Informa
tion about the various majors offered
at Meredith.
Each department spokesperson gave
a brief speech about the major in
their discipline along with sugges
tions for complementary minors. Other
topics discussed were job opportun
ities. scholarship availability, and
supportive services offered to stu
dents through the Office of Student
Development. The event was just as
entertaining as it was Informative —
and the food was outstanding. As
Suzie Fox, President of Wings put it,
“This has been great! I believe we’ve
started a new tradition at Meredith.”
Plans are underway for next year's
gathering so if you missed this year’s
event do make a special effort to
attend next year.
The Career Services Office,
second floor of Cate Center,
has evening hoursTuesday and
Wednesday each week between
6-7 p.m. On Tuesday evenings
Joan Mills, Associate Director,
Is available for scheduled
counseling appointments dur
ing that time.
The Resource Room — filled
with company information,
graduate school catalogues, and
informative, helpful career
development books and jour
nals — Is a fine place for quiet
study and interview preparation.
According to president Susie Fox,
the purpose of WINGS (Women In
New Growth Settings) is to give
support to the student over twenty-
three years old. The organization
WINGSI
has over four hundred members that
attend Meredith both during the day
and evening.
Rather than having scheduled
meetings, WINGS has more programs
and social events. WINGS will per
form the opening act for Cornhus-
kln’, which will take place In October.
"We are really excited about it,” said
Fox. A color analysis will be the
topic ofthe November meeting. Cindy
Allen Edwards’ mother will be the
speaker and will also perform a color
analysis on different people.
Even though they are not tradi
tional students, according to Fox,
“We get together and socialize like
the traditional students."
