Soap Opera Update by LMira McArthur THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL Clarke proposes an agreement to Margo offering her ten percent of his income for the rest of his life, but Margo refuses the settlement. Beth and Steven have gone to Paris In hopes of saving their marriage. Will It be too late? Brooke asks Caroline for help against Stephanie, but Car oline makes her no promises. Could Caroline be siding with Mrs. Forrester? by Jill Murrsll Once again, the North Carolina Symphony Is off to a great start. The September 16 opening to the 1988- 89 series featured works by Leonard Bernstein, Joaquin Rodrigo, and Johannes Brahms. Christopher Parkening was the guest guitarist. The concert started with the national anthem, which was an unusual, however welcome addition to the evening. After the audience had re seated themselves, Gerhardt Zimmerman joined his musicians on stage and sopke briefly about Bern stein and his contributions to the musical community. Zimmerman then dedicated the Symphony's perfor mance of Divertimento for Orches tra to the celebration of Bernstein and the Boston Symphony's 100th birthday. "Divertimento" Is a wond erful piece because It is so varied; everyone enjoys at least one move ment in particular. Recognlzeable In this work are bits of West Side Story, and the ballet's Fancy Free and On The Town. AS THE WORLD TURNS Lillie, angry that Holden is spend ing time In Chicago with Angel, spends the night with Spence. Meg longs to be In Rod’s arms while hus band Tonlo Is infatuated with Lilllth. After the Bernstein piece, Chris topher Parkening joined the sym phony on stage for Rodrigo’s Con- clerto de Aranjuez, for guitar and orchestra. Parkening. a former stu dent of Andres Segovia, was brilliant and definitely the highlight of the evening. His guitar skills are mes merizing, and the piece in itself was quite beautiful. The two together made for very enjoyable listening. Following the Intermission. Zim merman conducted the N.C. Sym phony in Brahms' Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Opus 73. This piece was more relaxed and fluid than the other two and probably made some of the more tired members of the audience a little drowsy. It was fun listening for bits of his famous lullaby that are Included in this work. Zimmerman and the musicians opened the season well, and the audience concurred, giving the symphony three curtain calls. The next performance in the classical series is Friday. October 28. Hal calls Greece to talk with Craig but Margo answers. In a later con versation, Margo tells Hal that she and Tom are bringing their baby back with them to Oakdale.
