M E D E D I T H HEDALD Vol. 4 No. 8 Meredith College, Raleigh, NC 27611 October 25,1988 Meredith College Honored by U.S. News & World Report Meredith College has been named among the nation’s best colleges and universities, according to a new survey by U.S. News & World Report. In the annual survey, published in the October 10 issue, the magazine ranked Meredith College as the 15th best small comprehensive institute in the nation. U.S. News editors based their find ings on the quality of the student body and faculty, the amount of the institu tion’s financial resources, and the per centage of freshmen who eventually graduate from the institution. The survey results were divided into five categories, according to the enroll ment and classification of the school. Meredith, the largest private 4 year col lege for women in the Southeast, is classified as a small comprehensive college, along with 166 other schools in the nation. According to Dr. John E. Weems, president of the college, Meredith’s prestigious ranking can be attributed to the quality of the faculty. Meredith and number one-ranked Berea College in Kentucky are the only two schools in the South included in the top 25 listing fortheir category.
