Task Force on Pursuit of Excellence Nears Its Goal
A little-known but very important com
mittee of faculty, alumnae and current
students at Meredith has been hard at
worl since May 1987 to evaluate excel
lence at Meredith and to recommend
steps to take in the future to improve
• 'Meredith's excellence.
The Task Force for the Pursuit of
Excellence, chaired by Dr. Alan Page of
the Religion Department, has already
developed a list of assumptions about
Meredith College. These assumptions
cover a wide range of topics, from the
quality of student life to the physical
facilities of the campus, from the goals
by Cara Lynn Croom
of education to the cost of education at
Meredith.
The assumptions that the Task Force
has listed will now be used as a basis
for making recommendations to Presi
dent John Weems. These recommen
dations will touch on ways to keep edu
cation affordable, ways to make the
residence life more conducive to study
and ways to increase opportunities for
faculty and staff development. Dr. Page
stated that the Task Force hoped to be
able to make its report by the end of this
semester.

While fr>e Task Force is not directly
linked to the self-study that Meredith is
now conducting, the Task Force's find
ings may be used in developing both
long and short range goals for Meredith.
Any student who may wish to express
an opinion concerning excellence at
Meredith may speak to Dr. Page or may
contact Casey Bass Bunch who is a
student representative on the Task
Force. Student input is welcomed by
