was in the true Methodist sense as Welty
said, and was very fitting. Christine Wom
ack did a superb job with the song about
your own backyard in the second transi
tional scene. However, the final scene
back in the beauty shq} tended to drag a bit
and could possibly have been left out
without harm to the production.
Overall, the play under Creagh’s direc
tion was a success. I salute those involved
with its production including others in the
cast: Carol Sessoms, Kelly Spaulding,
Tracy Whitlow, Shelley Welch, Rick
McBane, Bryant Wall and Vance Gree-
son. Hats off also to the production staff
including Connie Smith and Nan Stephen
son and to the technical crews.
SGA letter
discussed at
Faculty Meeting
by Jeannine Manning
The Meredith Faculty held its monthly
meeting on Friday, February 16 at 3:00
p.m. in Kresge Auditorium. Besides dis
cussing academic affairs, the group dis
cussed the recent letter from the Snident
Government Association to the students
and faculty along with their reason for
writing the letter.
Yvette Brown, president of the SGA,
said that SGA wants a change in the pres
ent review system. SGA will recommend
to the Board of Trustees that there be a
check and balance system put into the By
laws of the college. Brown stated that
"this case [referring to the one mentioned
in the letter] is past" but SGA does want
changes to be made for the future.
President John Weems said that a letter
about his position of this case should come
out early in next week.
When asked why he choose to make a
decision when personally involved in the
case, President Weems responded that it is
designated in the By-laws of the school
that the President is the only person who
can suspend or expell a student. Then
President Weems added, "Perhaps I should
have given more consideration to the case."

Tennis Team Springs into New Season
by Laura McArthur
The Meredith College spring tennis season is about to begin. Tryouts began Feb. 1
with challenge matches being played to establish positions on the ladder. 14 girls tried
out for the team. Coach Massey chose to keep them all.
The top six players this season will be Libby Avery, Anne Whiteside, Elizabeth
Wilson, Leslie Taylor, Lisa Howey, and Alyson Yokley. Other team members are
Jennifer Bickus, Bonme Bugnar, Barbara Eagles, Jennifer Edge, Libby Farmer, Rebecca
Hall, Burgen Padgett, and Jane Sands.
10 of the girls are returning from the fall season, fow of which are seniors: One
player, Teresa Burger, will not be returning. However, Libby Avery, who did not play
in the fall, will return and be the number one player.
Coach Massey expects that the team will be much stronger this season. This is
partially due to Libby Avery’s return. Massey also feels that they will have a “very
competitive season.”
The team's first home game will be March 16, so come on out and support the
Meredith tennis program.
