Dr. Jane Goodali to Visit lUleredlth
Dr. Jane Goodali, world renown scien
tific expert and author on the subject of
primate behavior, will speak at Meredith
College on April 20 and 21. Her visit to
Raleigh is the only North Carolina stop
during this trip to the U.S.
On Friday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m., Dr.
Goodali will speak in Jones Auditorium to
Meredith College students, feculty and staff
about her career challenges and opportu-
nites. On Saturday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m.
also in Jones Auditorium, she will adress
the Carolinas Psychology Conference to
discuss her research and her scientific ob
servations with the group.
Dr. Goodal and her accomplishments
have become legendary since die began her
work in 1960 as the protege of famed an
thropologist/ paleontologist Dr.Louis S. B.
Leakey. She conq>leted her Ph. D. in ethol
ogy al Cambridge University, England, in
1965 and founded The Gombe Stream
Reasearch Center that same year. HmHigb
publication of five books, her appearances
- on National Geogrpahic Society specials
and her annual lecture tour, Jane Goodali
has become one of the most respected and
publicly recognized scientists in the world.
Within the scientific community, she has
published numb^us articles and has bera
credited with the fiirst recorded observa
tions of chimps eating meat and mal-itig
and using tools — the latter believed until
that time to distinguish man from all other
animals. The World Wildlife Fund has
recognized her research as the longest
unbroken field of study of any group of
animals in their natural habitat ever con
ducted.

Leakey and her subsequent study of chim
panzee behavior. Summarizes her major
discoveries and deals widi human identity in
relation to her findings about chimpanzee
life.
