Working on the paper is of those goals."
Haskett says her goals for the Heraid
are twofold: “I want the paper to maintain
a student focus while expanding our
mission: engaging students in a global
outlook. Second, I’d like the stalT to
have a good time putting it together

“Some feel that you have to be an

Checking Out Checking Accounts
by Julia Haskett, Editor-in-chief
You may be opening your very first
checking account or perhaps you’ve
done this before. Maybe your choice of
where to open an account is based on
where your parents bank, or because
that's where you’ve always had a
checking account and never considered
comparing services at a different
institution. In any case, the decision of
choosing where to “stash your cash"
should not be taken lightly. A hasty
decision can cost you in the long run.

Awesome Freshmen!
Student Orientation Program offers a
snapshot of life at Meredith
There were threatening skies outside
on Thursday but, inside Jones Chapel,
new Meredith freshman were treated to
a rainbow welcome by student leaders,
faculty and administration members.
Mrs. Cindy Edwards, Director of
Student Activities, introduced the filled-
to-capacity crowd to some of the
traditions of the school, from the multi
colored balloon rainbow that greeted
arriving students to that indescribable
experience called Cornhuskin’.
Nan Smith, Student Government
President, explained to the students that
they are not alone in this new college
experience; student and academic
advisors, resident directors and advisors,
faculty, staff and upperclassmen are all
here to help make the transition from
high school to college easier. “We don't
look down on freshman,” she said. “We
think freshmen are awesome!" She urged
everyone to become an active part of
the Meredith Communiiy.
Ann Hiott, SGA Treasurer, gave
several reasons she chose lo aiicnd

universities. She noted the advantage of
the many opportunities to develop
leadershipskills, the aunosphere of unity
among the students, the challenge to
reaffirm personal religious beliefs, and
