A Class of Champions
BjrKfmSp^
The roar of the crowd, the crisp,
dean, fall air, and live television coverage
are just some of the elements that make
up an afternoon of college football in
the triangle. However, on September
23th, Meredith held a game without the
mile-long traffic)ams, thousandsof fans,
and tailgating on every con^r. It was
the flag football superbowl, and WRAL
TV5 was on hand to catch every thrilling
play on Him.
Approximately 250 students, players,
parents, and professors turned out to
support the seventh annual superbowl
held in the courtyard. The game is the
grand finale to the weekly intramural
contests that have been going on for
nearly a month now. Ihis game had
come down to two intensely competitive
teams-lst and 2nd Poteat against 2nd
Barefoot, the juniors against the seniors,
and both were out to win.
The game started around 5:30 and
by halftime it was evident that both
teams were putting all their hearts into
it Poteat held a lead of 12-8 at the half
and the juniors sensed an upset;
however, the seniors were not about to
give up without a fight.
The stait of the second half saw the
seniors with a renewed sense of energy,
enthusiasm, and determination to win.
The Poteat juniors tried to hold down
the Barefoot seniors' attack.
In the fourth quarter, with time
running out, the seniors began to take a
dominant lead. Tlieir fans hoped that
victory would belong to the class of '91.
When the final seconds ticked off the
clock. Barefoot was declared the winner
by a score of 22-12 over Poteat. Kim
Preddy, a senior on the Barefoot team,
was announced the Star Player of the
game by WRAL-TV sportscaster Bob
Holiday and the senior>dominated 2nd
Barefoot team was declared 1990
Superbowl Champs.

action live for the 5:30 newscast Bob

year covering the ‘powder pufP game.
It’s a fun and different thing to do. We
try to cover non-traditional sports, and
women playing football is certainly that.
There’s no pressure here. The players
are purely having fun and that makes it
a refreshing game to cover.”

Morality in
the Arts?
By Patricia Underwood
Dr. Harold M. Best, Dean of the Conservatory
of Music at Wheaton College in Illinois, presented
a series of lectures on “Morality in the Arts" on
Monday September 24 and September 26 as part of the
Staley Distinguished Christian Scholars Lecture Pro^m.
The opening to Monday's lecture, "Creation, Worship,
and Artis ticAction, "very much resembled aSunday sermon.
“I come to you as a Christian," said Dr. Best, “I live with
great happiness and joy within the confines of the Gospel."
Dr. Best’s preamble was influenced strongly by his belief
in the Christian faith and in higher education. ‘‘Teachers
are to be above all servants, and God help us if they are
not,’' he stated.
In Monday’s lecture. Dr. Best compared the Biblical
story of creation to the creation of an by artists. He said
that if the writer had the “scientific knowledge" d»at we
have about the earth today, the story would be written the
