New Trustees Named
Staff Focus
Nine new members to Meredith’s
Board ofTrustees were recently selected.
The board consists of thirty-six members
who are chosen from North Carolina
Baptist churches, nominated by a
committee of the N.C. Baptist State
Convention, and elected by the
Convention in annual session. The board
meets twice a year and is charged in the
college charter with the responsibility
for managing and controlling the
operation of the collegc. The terms are
for four years, and are staggered so that
each year nine positions rotate.
The new members are as follows:
Mr. Hubert F. Ledford of Raleigh,
former president of State Capital Life
Insurance and co-chairman of Durham
Life Insurance Co. Mr. Ledford has served
several previous terms as a Meredith
Trustee, including a term as chairman.
He is a life deacon at Hayes Barton
Baptist Church.
Mr. Robert H. Lewis of Raleigh,
retired from the Employment Security
Commission. He has served previous
terms on the Meredith College Board of
Associates and the Board of Trustees.
He is a member of First Baptist Church
in Raleigh.
Mr. Fred Smith of Raleigh, managing
partner of Smith Debnam Hippart and
Pahl, Attorneys. Mr. Smith is also
managing partner of Fred Smith
Associates Developers, Raleigh, owner
of FSA Hohies, and part owner of Smith
Brothers Construction Company. He is a
member of First Baptist Church of
Clayton.
Mr. Hilton Tetterton of Atlantic
Beach, NC. Mr. Tetterton Is a motel
owner and contractor, and is a member
of the Bogue Banks Baptist Church in
Adantic Beach.
Mrs. Faye Broyhill of Lenoir, North
Carolina. Mrs. Broyhill is a homemaker.
She is married to Paul Broyhill. They are
members of First Baptist Church of
Lenoir. Mrs. Broyhill is a Meredith
alumnae and has previously served on
the Meredith Board of Trustees.
Mr. George Griffin of Havelock,
North Carolina. He is an accountant and
a member of First Baptist Church in
Havelock. He has previously served on
the Board of Trustees.
Reverend Judith P. Powell of Enfield,
NC. She Is the pastor at Antioch Baptist
Church in Enfleld and has served on the
Historical Committee of the Baptist State
Convention.
Mr. Glen White of Rockingham, NC.
He is a member of First Baptist Church
in Rockingham. He has served two
previous terms on the Board ofTrustees.
Mr. Fred Stone of Raleigh, NC. He is
the retired president of Raleigh Spring
and Brake Service and is a member of
Ridge Road Baptist Church of Raleigh.
He has previously served on the Meredith
Board of Associates.

^In these days? She’s graduating!
Libby is completing her studies at
Southeastern Baptist Theological
Semirmy on December 1S with a Master
of Divinity degree.
She began at Seminary in 15^ and
spent two years as a full-time student In
1966, she started woricing at Meredith as
tn RD and took a semester ofF to get
used to her new job before heading
back to school. Now Libby is Anally able
to relax a little.
Libby says she has no desire to
leave Meredith now that her studies are
completed. She is satisfied with her
ministry here. She says she feels that the
college community is more open to
challenge and growth than the church
would be.
Libby’s graduation on December 15
will be held at Binkley Chapel in Wake
Forest
