We believe strongly in the importance of building an academic community life at Meredith, and feel strongly that the residence life is very much a part of that community. Our residence p>olicy to date has been that students are required to live in a residence hall on campus unless permission is granted for them to live in town with a relative, unless the student is married, is at least 23 years of age, or unless her dass has already graduated. Residential policy at Meredith has been very imp>ortant for two reasons. The first reason is the building and maintaining for an academic community. The second reason is that the Meredith fees, tuition, room and board, are kept as low as possible and are based upon full residence halls on our campus. Because Meredith has enjoyed full enrollment for the past several years, an off-campus option has been offered to twenty-four seniors and twelve juniors each spring. After twelve junior and twenty-four senior applications have been approved, members of the Meredith Recreation Assodation, Meredith Entertainment Association, or Meredith Christian Association. Information sessions held over the past several weeks provided students with a more accurate understanding of the war and its implications. Topics included Selective Service/The Draft, Consdentious Objector Status, and History of the Mid^ East Additional topics suggested are Culture andCustonu ci tfie Mideast, Comparative Rel^ions, Middle East Geography. Call the Office of Student Activities for further infomtation abo^upcoming information sessions. An advisory couocil of fooiHy and staff meets periodically to assess the needs of the Meredith community. The Mideast Support Services Advisory Council, coordinated by Gina Koberts, can assist in locatii^ information and resources needed u> address individual and group needs. Members of the council are Janice McClendon, CXive Taylor, Marilyn Stuber, Carson Brisson, David Heining-Boynton, Ben Judkins, Ruth Balia, Ali^ McNeil and Debra Smith. additional api^cations have been placed on a waiting lisL The same quota has been approved for the 1991-92academic year.
