'Kod Say Amen' Coming to Meredith Following a popular and successful tour of the United Kingdom, The English Shakespeare Company bring their first educational project to the Fletcher School of Per forming Arts at Meredith Col lege September 19-21. A group of five actors will be present ing GOD SAY AMEN together vith a series of specially de vised workshops, drawing on the many themes taken from THE WARS OF THE ROSES. Shakespeare's seven play history cycle - Richard II, Henry IV (parts I and II), Henry V, and Henry VI (in two parts), THE WARS OF THE ROSES visited the Chicago Interna tional Theatre Festival and the Stamford Centre for the Arts and received press accolades from the NEW YORK TIMES: "makes Shakespeare the hot test ticket in the world theatre" and from NEWSWEEK: "This amazing company achieved the rare feat of making Shakespeare souad like the real inter-chang;es between real people while keeping the power and the glory of the poetry." Just as original produc tions set the plays in a contem porary context to examine Shakespeare's inquiry into political behavior. GOD SAY AMEN will aim to involve its audience in the current world situation through the connec tions with these prophetic plays. Every performance is different and the workshops are varied. The workshops will be held in Jones Auditorium on Wednesday night at 8:00 pm and Saturday at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. All interested teach ers, students and theater lov ers are invited to attend. This series of performances and classes are sponsored by The Fletcher School of Perform ing Arts. There is no charge but reservations are neces sary. Please call Mary Beth Deaton at 890-6083.
