Discussed at
SGA Forum
by Jessica Cook
On Octobn^ 23, Ae Student Government Ex
ecutive Committee and rqn«sentatives from Stu>
dent Life, Senate, Honor Council, Residence Ibll
Board, and Association of Meredith Commuters
held an open forum to discuss student concerns.
Ann Hiott, SGA president, opened the forum by
stating its purpose. She emfrfiasized her desire to
see the questions, concerns, and complaints of
students answered and addressed and suggested
discussion topics such as male visitation, social life
on campus, honor council penalties, and the issue
of moving off campus.
Studrats present at the forum responded enthusi-
asticaUy. The pros and coos of male visitation were
discussed; students also proposed having a guest
house for the out-oNom Hdeviiilors of Meredith
students. Many &ougbt Le Greenhouse should be
open until oudm^t for students’ dining conve
nience, dating purposes, and student socializing.
Commuters present expressed difficulties diey have
encountered in the dining hall, and the need for a
better off-campus meal plan. The effectiveness
and consistency of Honor Council penalties was
also discussed.
In additicA, possible changes in the Meredith
commuDitywfeiemeatiaaed Boooie Bognar, Honor
Council chair, stated the Honor Council was ex
ploring the possitMlity of community service as an
alternative to traditknal forms of punishment; for
exan^e, a student would perform work services
around Menditfa instead of being campussed for an
offisnse. Hiott also mentioned possible excitmg,
massive reaovaticms in die cafeteria Ifais summer.
