bu liiCia Dixon, Leadersliip Intern The membeis of the Meredith En tertainment Association (MEA) have been unbelievably busy this semester. They’ve planned a va riety of events from picnics, to movies, to a mixer, to the Luau, and now to the Winter Semi-For- mal. Jacqui Dato, the President of MEA, said that MEA has several goals they are striving to achieve during the 1991-1992 school year. The primary goal of MEA is to provide a variety of entertainment tor the Meredith community. In order to include all of the Meredith community, MEA plans to increase their effoits at attracting commuter students and faculty and staff memben? to all of their events. With all of their new events, traditional events, and traditional events with new twists, this promises to he an excellent year for entertainment at Meredith. While MEA is known for their traditional activities, they are al ways b^;inning new activities. One of MEA's newest events is Madcap Battle of the Bands. Madcap will be held in Jones Auditorium on Wednesday, February 12, 1992. This event is geared at giving amateur talent the opportunity to perform in front of a college audi ence. All proceeds from tfiis event are donated to a charity chosen by MEA. This year MEA has chosen the Girls Club of Wake Gmnty and the Raleigh Soup Kitchen as its two charities. MEA Is looking forward to an extremely successful second annual Madcap Battle of the Bands. Although MEA is continuously looking for new events in order to broaden their entertainment scope, they do continue to sponsor tradi tional activities Meredith has come to love. Ticket sales are getting ready to begin tor North Carolina State basketball games. “Pacific Heights,” “Edward Scissoihands,” and “Ghost*’ are just a few of the hot movies that have been shown by MEA this year. The Balloon Gallery, located in the MEA office beside the student supply store, offers a variety of balloons year round. They are open from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm on Monday through Thursday and ftom 10:00 am - 2:00 pm on Friday. The Balloon Gallery is available to take off-campus ordCTS firom parents and can deliver on campus. In addition, they offer a variety of holiday balloons. Spring Fling, another traditional event, will be held on Sunday, April 5, 1992. Spring Fling 1992 may include a beach theme as welf as shagging lessons. As you can see, there are a wide variety of events offered to the Meredith commu nity by MEA. In addition to traditional events, MEA is changing and expanding several of their activities. The largest of their activities, the Cen- teniual White Iris Bali, is one of the events that has t>een altered. For- merty the Winter Semi-Formal, the Centennial White Iris Ball was im proved in order to continue the great sease of tradition at Meredith. The Centennial White Iris Ball was established in honor of the Cen tennial and the college flower, the white iris. In the future this dance, which is held typically in Novem ber, will be called the White Iris Ball. The 1991 Centennial White Iris Ball will be held on Friday, November 15,1991 at the Raleigh Civic Center. Tickets tor the Ball will be on sale from Monday, No vember U through Friday, No= vember 15 in Belk Dining Hall during lunch and dinner and in the Cate Center during lunch. The cost is $20.00 per couple. White Iris Ball t-shirts will also be on sale from November 4 through No vember 15. Sounds Unlimited, a video jockey a>mpany, will provide the music for the dance. Jacqui Dato, MEA President, encourages everyone to attend the White Iris Bali as it will be a great night to be with close friends and dance the night away. Ms. Dato and all of the MEA mem bers are always eager to hear your suggestions. You can stop by the MEA office during their Balloon Gallery hours or call them at 829- 8650. MEA meetings are open as well and are held on Friday morn ings at 10:00 am in 206 Harris. Next semester, their meetings will be held on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm with the Iwation to be announced. Future considerations for change within MEA are to move Fall Fest, an afternoon of music, fi-iends, and t(K)d held on the Meredith Island, to the same weekend as the White Iris Ball. MEA would then wnsider moving the White Iris Ball to Oc tober. As with all of their events, MEA will be sending out surveys to r^eive your opinions on this topic as well as many others. Be an active participant in your campus entertainmern programming and let MEA hear from you! If ipu ve made up xpur mind t|ou can do somethiw^, you're obsoCutel^ riglit.
