This Pulitzer Prize winning drama of post-War New Orleans, was the hit of Chopstick Theater’s 1990 FESTIVAL OF CLASSICS, continually selling out. Tennessee Williams’ gripping drama tells the story of a Southern gentle woman, Blanche Dubois, and her struggle for beauty and sanity in the heartless modem world of her brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski. This is not a Meredith Performs event, but rather performances sponsored by Meredith Theatre to help raise &nds for attending the Southeastern Theatre Conference in March atOriando. We are interested in presenting it on campus fortiie studmts, faculty, and staff because live performances of Streetcar are somewhat infrequent. Critic Carol Furtwangler said of this pro duction, “the cast, with intensity and power, recreated Williams; earthy New Orleans ch^cters that were designed to shock au diences four decades ago." As part of Chopstick Theater’s 1990 FESTIVAL OF CLASSICS at the historic Dock Street The ater, Streetcar was an unqualified hit, con tinually playing to sell out crowds. During Ae day, the company will also perform Fractured Fairytales while they are here. The Raleigh and Meredith communi ties are welcome to attend. Several groups of children and parents will be coming to Meredith to enjoy these performances.
