North Carolina Results of Survey on Male Visitation Announced by Senate by Stephanie Hibner and Jennifer Hartig At the beginning of every school year, the Student Government Association establishes goals to work on thoroughout the year. One of this year’s goals was to increase awareness of and involvement in student government. In accordance with this goal, SGA held an open forum on October 23 to allow Meredith students to voice their concerns with members of the SGA executive committee. Issues involving social life on campus were a major concern of the students in attendance. SGA has already acted upon one of these issues by suggesting that ARA keep Le Greenhouse open later in the evenings. SGA has also asked the Senate to review the current male visitation policy and to propose any adjustments it deems necessary. Senate’s first step was to determine whether students want a change in policy. To accomplish this, they designed a survey and distributed it through the hall meetings. A total of the questions and results are as follows: 1. Are you in favor of male visitation in dorms on a limited basis (for example, Sunday afternoons, 1-5 pm)? YES NO UNDECIDED Seniors 81 20' 3 Juniors 148 25 3 Sophomores 193 18 4 Freshmen 220 4 1 Other 14 1 1 TOTAL 656(89.13%) 68 (9.24%) 12(1.63%) 2.
