Office of Dean of
Students Holds
Drawing to
Determine
Off-Campus
Housing
by Karen Howell, Residence Hall Board
Chair
On Tuesday, February 18, 1992,
the Office of the Dean of Students
held the off-campus housing draw
ing to determine which students
would be granted permission to live
off-campus, effective Fall semester,
1992. Each group or individual had
one form entered in the drawing. A
seperate drawing was held for jun
iors and seniors.
The forms were drawn at random,
and coincidentally, theexactnumber
for the off-campus quota was drawn.
Twelve rising juniors and twenty-
four rising seniors were granted per
mission to move off-campus.
Once the quota was reached, the
drawing continued in order to com
pile a waiting list. Twenty-five ris
ing seniors and twenty-one rising
juniors were placed on the waiting
list. The students on the waiting list
will be granted permission to move
off-campus only if one of the original
twelve or twenty-four students al
ready granted permission decide to
remain on-campus.
The thirty-six students whose
names were drawn do not include
students who receive special permis
sion from Dean Sizemore, Dean of
Students, and JarUce McClendon,
Director of Student Life. Special
permission is granted only in the case
of medical or financial need, both of
which must be documented with a
letter from the student’s parents, as

Security Announces Changes in
Policy on Weekend Parking
by Dan Shattuck, Chief of Secu
rity
While a student at Meredith
College, your personal safety
and security of your residence
is of paramount importance.
Unregistered cars on campus
make it difficult to know
whether or not the vehicle
belongs to a student or a po
tential assailant. Moreover,
cars that block emergency
lanes or part in no parking
areas in front of buildings will
hinder fire and other emer
gency vehicles.
In an effort to insure a safe
community, parking regula
tions on campus will be en
forced 7 days a week, 24 hours
aday. It is mandatory that the
following regulations imme
diately go into effect for safe
and courteous parking.
I. All unregistered vehicles
must park in the commuter
parking lot on WEEKENDS
ONLY, unregistered vehicles
are NOT ALLOWED AT
ANY OTHER
TIME OR PLACE under
any circumstances unless
cleared by security.
2. Sophomore and Junior
stickers are not acceptable in
Senior parking spaces
under any circumstances.
3. Do not park in fire lanes
between dorms or the front of
Johnson Hall or
other “no parking” areas.
These regulations will be
enforced and violations may
result in receiving a ticket, a
“vehicle boot,” the vehicle
being towed at the owner’s
expense, or a combination of
the above.
Again, this is an attempt to
be clear about our regulations
and to better provide for your
personal safety and the safety
of our campus. Your contin
ued cooperation is essential
in keeping Meredith a nice
community in which to en
joy.

Seating at Founder's Day Convocation Will
Be First Come, First Serve
In last week’s Herald, we reported
that tickets to the Founder’s Day
Convocation to be held on Monday,
February 24, with Representative Pat
Schroeder as guest speaker, required
reserved seating. This was a
minunderstanding;as withmost con
vocations, students will be seated on
a first come, first serve basis. This
event is not open to the public. We
apologize to the Office of Public
Relations for the confusion. We en
courage everyone to attend Ms.
Schroeder’s addresss, because not
only does this promise to be an en
lightening and challenging speech, it
is also one of the closing events of
Meredith College’s Centennial year.
