March 20,1992 page eight "Vision for the Future. ” continued from page seven and value-based education will not only survive, but will prosper. It is obvious I am including Meredith in the group that will remain excellent and strong. What assumptions can we make aboutthe futureofwomen'scolleges? In the early 1960's there were more than 300 such institutions in the United States. Today there are only 90, and you would not readily recog nize the names of the majority of these. However, I cannot held but believe that most of hte women's colleges of reputation, such as Meredith, will emerge stronger than before. There will always be demand for a school such as ours, one that is strongly focused on the education and development of women. I think that the demand for our type of edu cation will grow and the competition for admission in the future will be at an even higher level than it is today. But you obviously can see that my vision for Meredith is positive and strong. We have a great school and it will gel belter. Meredith's heritage will always be important, and we are indebted to the love and sacrifices of those who made it possible for us to all enjoy what we have today. We want to do our part in ensuring the successful future of Meredith. I can hardly wait to see what is ahead of us!
