Rally for Quality Child Care to be held on campus by Lucie Lachance A rally for quality child c are will be held at Meredith College on Worthy Wage Day, April 9,1992, from 5:00-7:00pm in the amphitheatre with activities for children beginning at 4:30pm. What is Worthy Wage Day? Worthy Wage Day is a day to highlight the connection between teachers/providers and quality child care. In 1991, the Worthy Wage Campaign was officially launched at the NAEYC Conference and was endorsed by such national organizations as the Children’s Defense Fund, Child Care Action Campaign, the National Family Day Care Association and the National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies as well as many local AEYC affiliates and other groups. The Campaign seeks to establish the link between quality care and wages; to promote the idea that child care is important work; to introduce the concept that responsibility for the full cost of quality care rests on the whole community and finally that lack of support for child care reflects our society’s current priorities. Mark your calendar and plan to attend the RALLY FOR QUALITY CHILD CARE. Come and hear what teachers, parents, legislators and other advocates from across the state have to say about quality issues. The gubernatorial candidates have been invited to participate and listen to our concerns. Be there to ask them questions. All of us are affected by child care issues. Are you a Child Development Major? Are you planning a career in Sociology or Psychology? Are you studying to become a teacher? Are you pursuing a business degree? Will you someday have to handle personnel matters? Will you be a parent some day? If you answered yes to any of the above, you need to attend the RALLY FOR QUALITY CHILD CARE on April 9. The future of child care quality depends on your involvement NOW. You can help shape the course of compensation and working conditions of teachers/ providers. YOU can help to significantly improve the quality of child care in this country. Mrs. Jo Welch Hull, Greensboro, N.C.. with Dr. James A. Forbes, Jr., Minister of Riverside Church, New York.
