September 2,1992 page five Campus Sports Golf team hopes for a "par "feet '92 season The recent beautiftil weather has enticed many golfers to practice their game and enjoy the sunshine. This holds true at Meredith as well. 2 O "o Meredith’s golf team, coached by Bill Grady, has been practicing 3-4 times a week in preparation for the upcoming season. Kim Andrews, Donna Johnson, and Lori Watson, all returning play ers, have improved their skills and should provide the team with consis tency. New team members are Valerie Hurst, Blair Jones and Julie Stafford. The fall season consists of three tournaments, the first of which is SepL 18-20 in Farmville, Va. The final tour nament will be played at UNC- Greensboro, Oct. 25-27. Compared to previous teams, this year’s team feels confident that it will show marked improvement as team members better their putting and chipping skills. Team members are looking forward to the season ahead, hoping to place well in each tournament and have fun at the same time. Department head named and students. Another goal, which has already been accomplished, is the Physical Education Minor. This minor will emphasize teaching and coaching. A last goal is the comple tion of an assessment plan that has been going on in the department for about two years. Dr. Marie Chamblee was named the headof the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Dance at Meredith. She took over the Job from Mrs. Jay Massey, who retired in July. Chamblee has been with the de partment for fifteen years, coaching the volleyball team and teaching physical education activity classes. She will continue with some of those tasks while being head of the depart ment. As the new department head, Chamblee has set some goals for the department. One of the main goals is to get the Dance Certification Pro gram, headed by Dr. Sherry Taylor, going by recruiting more teachers Soccer Coach Needed The A.E. Finley Y.M.C.A. is looking for volunteer coaches for the fall pre K-Kinderfarten soccer league. Volunteers are selected by their ability to work with children over their athletic expertise. Volunteers will receive a free six-month membership to the Finley Y.M.C.A. Anyone interested should contact Pat Roy or Cameron Burleson at 848-9622 ASAP.
