Sophomores to hold Mother/Daughter Tea by Amy Bond What memory will stick out most in your mind after you leave Meredith College? Will it be driving up for the first time for freshman orientation, dressing up for Cornhuskin, getting that special class ring your junior year, meeting and going out with a new big or little sister, running the three legged race in Stunt, or graduating on Mother’s Day on the island? No matter what your memory is, when a younger someone twenty years from now tells you that they attend Meredith College, you are likely to ask them about a certain tradition, and if it still exists. The young college student will answer, “Yes, of couse, it is one of our bigger traditions! ” Your heart will be warmed by the answer as you think back to the fall of 1992 when your mother came and cried throughout the whole program because she was so proud of you. The Mother/Daughter tea is now an added tradition at Meredith. It started last year with the Class of 1994. The Class of 1995 feels it necessary to carry this special tradition on. Tliis Saturday, during Parents Weekend, approximately 200 mothers and daughters will gather in the amphitheatre for a special program. The guest speaker will be Anne Pugh. She has two daughters, is secretary to Chuck Taylor, and is very respected in the Raleigh community. After she speaks, Amy Whitt, a member of the sophomore class, will respond from a daughter’s perspective. We are all looking forward to Saturday afternoon. My biggest hope is that the tradition continues year after year. Someday you might find yourself sitting on the steps of the amphitheatre with your own daughter. Dr. Jean Jackson, Dr. Norma Rose, Dr. lone Knight and Dr. Michael Novak, as well as other Kappa Nu Sigma members, also attended the induction ceremony. After the induction of the new members. Heather Beard presented the two Helen Price Scholarships. Angela J. Parks was the sophomore scholarship recipient, and Jeannine Grant was the junior scholarship recipient. A reception honoring the new members of Kappa Nu Sigma and the scholarship winners followed the induction ceremony and a brief business meeting. SGA forum planned by Kristen Tyvoll Do you have questions or sug gestions concerning the plans and actions of Meredith’s SGA? If you do, or if you just want to get to know your SGA officers and hear their goals for the year, you are invited to attend the SGA forum on Thursday, Oct. 1,6:00-7:00 p.m., 103 Joyner. According to SGA president Jennifer Hartig, the forum is a time for the student body to talk with the SGA and voice its concerns and opinions about life on the Meredith campus. Jennifer feels that it is very important that the students at Meredith are aware of the goals and plans of the SGA. She stresses that everyone at Meredith has a voice and the purpose of this forum is to give the SGA officers the opportu nity to listen and respond to Meredith students. Wednesday Protect Yourself!
