The win gave the Tarheels their third national cham pionship win and Coach Dean Smith his second. The last time the Tarheels won the championship was in 1982 in the Lousiana Superdome. The win marked the third straight championship title for a Triangle team -- the Duke Blue Devils won the last two championships. •• The trial of three Camp Lejeune Marines accused of beat ing Crae Pridgen outside a gay bar in Wilmington began Monday. Four witnesses testified that a Marine threw the first punch when the fight broke out. One witness said the Marine acted after a bar patron made offensive sexual re marks .
