The team will be called the Caro lina Panthers. Charlotte was fricked ftom a field of five cities -St. Ij3uis, Baltimore, Memphis, and Jacksonville. • Monday, the Raleigh/ Durtiam/Chapel Hill area was named as the sixth best place to live in the nation by Places Rated AUnanac, and Tuesday, Fortune magazine named the area as the best city for for business rela tions in the nation. • A Democratic supporter of Governor JimHuntpleaded guilty to an infraction stemming from accusations that she used a radio scanner to listen to phone con versations between Republican Jim Gardner and his son. • Shane Beasly,17, of Smithfield was sentenced to 10 years in pri sonMondayforthrow- ing a cemetery urn off of an 1-95 overpass on Feb.26 that nearly Idlled Elleii Daley. • Vice President A1 Gore vis ited a Charlotte school to learn about its "Cities in Schools" drop out prevention program. Joe Carter's homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Blue Jays the lead. • Actor Vincent Price, known for his fiendish roles, died of lung cancer Monday at hishbme at the age of 82. compiled from regional newspapers by Traci Latta Five Meredith M.B.A. students attended the annual conference of the Southeast Case Research Asso ciation held in Myrtle Beach, SC, October 10-12, 1993. Each student had previously submitted an original case study based upon field research. The papers were blind reviewed and accepted for the conference in July, llie papers were written by Elaine Buxton, Sharon Segrest, Laura Dupree, Alicia Bauman and Monica Hendricksen. Hendrickson received the best case award, and B auman received an honorable mention in the student di vision. Buxton, who graduated in May 1993, received a third place award in the faculty competition. The papers were written under the direc tion of Dr. James Crew, Associate Professor of Management. The Southeast Case Research Associationis an affiliateofthe North American Case Research Associa tion. Its stated purposes are to; • develop the case method of research, teaching and application, • develop interdisciplinary case teaching note writing skills as de fined by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business, • advance individual analytical and reasoning skills, • provide forums for the inter change of expertise among those who train and develop policy-making pro fessionals, and • promote the active exchange of informationbetweencaseauthorsand interdisciplinary professionals in both public and private sectors. An abstract of all sixty-eight pa pers presented at the conference was published in the Proceedings of the Southeast Case Research Associa tion.
