Cornhuskin’ came to a rousing
end Thursday night with the seniors
having their ‘l4»st Time Out” in first
place while the juniors remembered
“Once Upon aTime” in second place.
The sophomores came “Halfway
Around the World” to land in third
place, and the freshmen flew into
fourth place during their introduction
to “A Whole New World.”
OnMonday, the penny barrel com
petition began which successfully
raised $1,700 that will be donated to
the Make a Wish Foundation. The
Seniors took first place with the sopho
mores following into second. The
freshmen grabbed third place while
the juniors finished fourth.
Can Art was held Wednesday with
thejuniors winning first place, and the
seniors and sophomores tying for sec
ond place. The freshmen ended in
fourth position.

class could gain points by attending
class and participating in the different

Students and members of
Meredith are showing a rising con
cern for the issue of crime on campus.
It is an important aspect of college
life, and everyone wants to do what
she can to insure personal safety and
the security of those around her.
In the 23 years that Police Officer
and Chief of Security Dan Shattuck
has been in charge of Security at
Meredith College, there have been no
major incidents, but Shattuck says that
does not mean that nothing wjll ever

Crimes that have occurred at
Meredith are vandalism, theft of per
sonal belongings from dorm rooms,
theft of classroom supplies and theft
of media supplies. There was also one
assault during the 1992-93school year,
but no one was injured and the of
fender was caught and sentenced to
ten years in prison.
Statistics show that Meredith is
fortunate to have such a well-trained,
competent security staff. They have
workedhard to help Meredith’s crime

Junior Shannon Baynor won the
cornshuckin’ competition while the
seniors came in second. The sopho
level remain at a minimum.
“We have a good record here, but
anything can happen,” ChiefShattuck
said. “The only way to be perfecUy
safe is to have one security guard per
student and that can’t happen.”
Chief Shattuck offered several
safety tips that he and his staff try to
instill in Meredith students:
1. Do not walk alone.
2. Be confident. Look like you
know where you are going.

The top spot in hog calling was
loudly captured by the seniors while
the sophomores ranked second, and
the freshmen ranked third. The jun
iors were disqualified due to the use of
proper nouns during their skit.
Hollace Dowdy won the tall talcf
for thejuniors, and the seniors came in
second. Freshmen placed third, and
the sophomores placed fourth.
The seniors once again held fa’s!
place in the song competition as the
juniors took second place. The fresh
men were awarded third place and the
sophomores finished in fourth.
In the sweatshirt competition, first
place was given to the seniors, and
second place was given the juniors.
Freshmen came in third place, and the
sophomores came in fourth.
