“The eleaion process was time con
suming and stressful," said Joy Hang,
the new sophomore class president.
And so it was for many candidates of the
1994-95 eleaions. Although Meredith's
classand campus-wide votingwas March
2, candidates began their long cam
paign journey February 16 at an elec
tions workshop.
Eleaion Board Chair Ashley Coo
per, whose role in the elections was to
promote elections and to oversee the
process,commented, “Theelection pro
cess this year was great. There was a lot
of opposition. ■■ Compared to last year,
the number ofvoters increased, aj:cord-
ing to Cooper. Whereas approximately
400 students voted last year, nearly 700
voted this year.
Newly elected leaders are very en
thusiastic about the upcoming year and
anxious to begin taking on their new
responsibilities. Student Government
Association (SGA) President-elect Kelly
Formy-Duval hopes to make Meredith a
better community.
‘My goal is to link tradition and
vision, move toward positive change
without losing tradition, to unify the
knowledge, energy, and ambition of
Meredith’s community into a powerful
entity, working together for a better
Mer^th;' Formy-Duval said. "Commu
nication is the key to motivation.”
Communication may very well be
the key between Formy-Duval and newly
elected SGA Vice President June Hol
land. Formy-Duval and Holland plan to
“work toward making SGA more acces-

sible to students,” Holland said. “We
want SGA to become more visible on
campus by working with the students
and for the students."
Possibly the most anxious moment
of the campaign journey was waiting
for the outcome.
Sophomore president-elect Hang
commentejd, “The stressful part of the
elections when I was waiting for
the results!" Nevenheless, the winners
are fervent and eager about their new
titles, as Mi^edith Entertainment Asso
ciation (MEA) President-elea Katherine
Davis indicated.
“I am extremely excited about being
elected as president of MEA for next
year,’ Davis said. “The sky’s the limit
with .MEA, and we can always plan and

create new activities at Meredith Col
lege! I am very confident that next year
will be one of MEA’s best yet!”
The objective of most elected lead
ers is to get students more involved in
campus activities. Meredith Christian
Association (MCA) President-elea Jan
Yow hopes to make students more
aware and excited about future events.
“I want to make MCA more readily
available and open to students and to
get more student involvement," Yow
commented.
All the new leaders who completed
their long, stressful journey to viaory
are anticipating the new academic year,
SGA President-elea Formy-Dural basi
cally summed it up for all those elected
by saying, “I can’t wait to get started!"
