March 30,1994 Campus Extras 8 Give Boston Chicken time to hatch In search of a satisfying dinner, my sister and I decided to try Boston Chicken, a new res taurant located on Glenwood Avenue (right beside the new Golden Corral). I had seen a commercial for Boston Chicken and it looked like a good place to try out. However, my sister and 1 were disappointed. We got to the restaurant right at 6 p.m. with the rest of the dinner crowd. The restaurant is like a cafeteria. Luck ily, the line moved quickly. There were four friendly people behind the counter ready (o take orders. We both ordered the dark meat dinner (S3.99) which came with two vegetables and combread. The server got our chicken quickly and asked which two veg etables we would like. I decided on the homestyle mashed potatoes and the baked beans. Kerri ordered macaroni and cheese and baked beans. Other Restavirant Review Tracey Rawls veggie choices included creamed spin ach, com pasta salad and mixed veg etables (zucchini and squash). Up to this point, our experience was pleas ant. After your server has your order ready, she takes your tray to one of three registers. She tri« to pick the line that is the shortest. The line our server picked was very slow with a not-so-Wendly cashier. People who were served after us were seated be fore us. Kerri went in search of a table while 1 got our drinks. Like many fest food restaurants, there was a beverage center where you could fix your own drink. I waited in line approximately ten minutes. 1 went to the table and began complaining to Kerri about the ^stem for paying and getting drinks. I starving so 1 dove into my mashed potatoes, which were excellent. Kerri told me her macaroni and cheese was cold. I bit into my combread and found that it was very buttery and cold. We both liked the baked beans, which were very spicy. The chicken quarter v/as small. (I have seen bigger pieces of chicken st Meredith.) The man next to us com mented that he ordered chicken, not pigeon. It did, however, taste pretty good. Like Bojangle’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken it was rotisserie chicken (with the skin on). The prices were not high—granted that you are charged cotrecdy. We both had the daik meat dinner (3.99/ each) and iced tea (.79/each). We were chafed $11.30. If I have done my math correctly, we should have been charged SlO.14, including tax. Since we did not get a receipt we could not refute what we were charged. They also haveawhite meat dinner for$4.99. If you don’t want a dinner, you can get a chicken salad sandwich, if you don’t care for rotisserie chicken, you can get a vegetable dinner (3 veggies and combread) for $3.99. Since Boston Chicken has been open for only a few weeks, there are bound to be quirks, i would go back— in a year. I think Boston Chicken has the potential to be a good restaurant; just give them some time. In the mean while, enjoy the chicken in Belk Din ing Hall.
