She enjoys scuba diving, running, and reading. Her fiivorite author is William Faulkner, and she likes listenii^ to Smashing Pumpkins and The AUraan Brothers. Shannon hopes to persue the study of marine biol(^. One of Shannon's quirks is her fond ness for rice and black bean soup. Yes, she is one of those poor, starving veg etarians (like her editor) at Meredith. Mei^an Cronauer, a Meredith fresh man, is a shining new reporter on the Herald staff. Meagan is an only child who presendy lives in Frederidcsburg, Va. A few of Meagan’s favorites are the color green, English and journalism, and the saying ‘I hope you know that this wUl go down on your permanent record." She listens to progressive, indus trial, and punk music. When In Wash* ii^n D.C., Meagan enjoys visiting the sectionofD.C. called Georgetown. She spends her days shopping at stores like ‘Commander Salamander’ and “Smash." Jan Seate, a photographer for the newspaper, is a freshman this year. She is planning to majcv in English and teadi high school. She is in the Teach ing Fellows program and is from Durham. Her most embarrasing mo ment was when she was in sixth grade and she tripped over a chair and landed flat on her fece. Tlie worst date she has ever had was when she went to Chili’s with a guy she didn’t know and didn’t like very well. They had to wait in line for 45 minutes and they had nothing to talk about. Then when they sat down to eat they still didn't talk. Jan likes to play basketball and likes to vacation at Myrtle Beach, S.C. Her fevorite movie is Gone With the Wind Keri VanDoren, a Herald reporter, is a freshman who knows where she Is going. She plans to major in English and possibly work as a journalist or freelance writer. 'Writing in this day and i^e is an unusual habit,” said VanDoren. ‘I en joy writing poetry of any kind.' She also listens to any kind of music, ex cept country. Her ftvorite color is peach, and her fevorite food is ham. The best book she Grisham. VanDoren has two older brothers who are both single (if any Meredith women are interested). Her OK>$t embaiassing moment happened during her senioryear when her boyfriend took her home from school. Shegathered her books, n^ed to liis side of the car, and gave him a goodbye kiss. To her surprise and embarassment, her mother had been watching from the window the entire time. Carrie Shaw, business manager for the Herald, is originally from Nebraska, but moved to Garner when she was 12. She loves North Carolina because she has the opUon of going to the beach, the piedmont and the moun tains. She ^so said there are more things to do here, since the only thing to do in Nebraska is farm. Shaw colleas horses, and she dreams of getting one. Her grandpar ents' neighbors have one, and she feeds it. Football is Shaw’s &vorite sport to ^tch. Her favorite college team isthe Nebraska University Comhuskers, and her favorite professional team is the Dallas Coit1x>ys. Shaw has an 18-year old sister, and people still mistake them for rwins. This is amazing because Shaw is a senk)r in college, and her sister is only senk>r in high school. When asked why she wanted to be the business manger for the Herald, Shaw said, “I love working with money. I also mnted to be involved and meet new people. It sounded interestif^, and 1 wanted to see if 1 could do it on my own." Her most embarassing moment happened her senior year when she litei^y slid into class late, knocking her desk over on top of her. The frinniest thing was that the teacher was not even there yet tocount her as tardy. Kimberly Zucker is a junior this year. She is originally from Roiinoke Rapids and an only child. She is an English major, psychol ogy minor and getting certified in sec ondary education. Everyone always mispronoimces her last name and she jokes about just spelling it “Zooker. * She also likes Kimberty, and not “ Kim," but she says everyone shortens it anyway. Her bvorite color is ted, and her favorite food is Chinese. She loves to write poems, ice-skate, dance, and listen to ‘Piiantom of the Opera." Her favorite way to spend time is with her friends. see PROFILES page seven
