September 28,1994 10 Campus News Volleyballl team sets up for a great season by Mar^ Tutor Meredith’s 1994 VoDeyball team is a fresh new team. Of the fifteen-mem- her team there are nine freshman, three sophomores, one junior, and two se niors. Being such a young team could be considered a disadvantage, but as Teresa "Tree" O’Toole stales, “The team has a lot of potential for the future." The players along with Coach Marie Chamblee are very excited to see what awaits them. The key to great voUe)i)all is team work. Because of the team’s youth, these talented players are learning to adjust to one another and work as a team. Trust between the players is being built with each praaice. The voileyball team practices each day from 4 to 6 p. m. If the team is not practicing it is due to yet another match; the team has quite a schedule. The team’s next string of pmes are all at home: Sept. 29 against Salem College at 7 p. m., Sept. 30 against Mary Baldwin College at 5 p.m., Oa, 4 against Meth odist College at 5 p. m., and Oct. 8 against Lynchbui^ College at 1 p. m. Come out and support the Meredith volleyball team and watch as the team grows with each game. The team consists ofNicole Norton, Chrissy Griffin, Teresa O'Toole, Pam Mobley, Tiffany Jones, Chanel Myers, Jennifer Thompson, Julie Lewis, Jenni fer Pruitt, Angela Schaffer, Tara Poe, Cathy Garrett, Leslie Roberts, Kimberli Fairchild, and manager Kathryn Foard. Emily Davenport is on the disabled list because she dislocated her shoulder during warm-up for the Sept. 13 Chowan match, and will need surgery on her shoulder. She will be unable to play for the rest of the season. Good luck to the Meredith voUeybalJ team! photo by Jan Seate/Laura Ro$$ Thevolleyballteampracticssrigoroulyeverydayforthe hefty schedule of matchesthey must play this season. Join the #1 Ranked Team in tlie Country! Dance Club is not happenin' by Melissa Cloer My room mate and I went to the Dance Club Wednesday n^t to find noone there except the wo Aers. After talking to the guy at the door he con vinced us to come back Friday or Satur day night when it is really “hittin’". So Friday night rolled sarong and my room mate, a few other “Angels", and around ventured to the Dance Club around 11:30 p.m. We paid the $1 cover chaise, since we had our Cam Cards on us, and trekked up the stairs. When we opened Uie door there were a few more people than on Wednesday night, but I still would not consider it "hittin”. The majority of people were at the bar ^d since we ^ had fluorescent yellowX’s on our hand everyone knew why we were not with the majority. My friends and I deckled to dance, seeing as how we were at the Dance Club! Since we were the only ones dancing, which was a good thing be- ouse the dance floor is smaller than our door rooms, we had the artention of those at the bar. I guess they got tired of staring at the large screen tele vision showing women dancing in less than what a normal bathing suit con sists of. After being there for about 15 min utes we could not take anymore and decided to leave. My companions on this quest did not have very high opin ions of the place. Lisa Morris said, “Those are not my kind of people, ” and Dren just thought that it was not her “kind of place," Sherrie commented,” The atmosphere is not one I would want to show to my out oftown Inends, especially with a dance floor that smaU!"JulieJennings recommends that you all,"..go to the Newbar because the Dance Club sucks!’ Overall I thought the club was not a hit but I do give them credit for trying. The door man did however explain to me that they are on a trail and error basis to see what attracts the largest amount of people. 1 do admit that the cover charge is very enticing. Ifyouare ITorolderand haveacollegei.d.itisonly$l to get in. If you do not have coUege i d. but a drivers license the cover charge is a mere $2. Forthoseofyou who are over 21 and have a college i.d. or military i.d. pay Si to get in or S2 with your drivers license and enjoy the dollar long necks at the bar. If you have a desire to go check out the Dance Qub I would advise you to give it a few weeks to REALLY get happin’, so you are not as disappointed as 1 was.
