China Garden; A taste for the Orient
Tucked into the side of Timber
Crossings shopping center off high
way 50 in Gamer, is China Garden
restaurant.
China Garden, a fomily restaurant,
opened in 1988 but has kept a low
profile compared to most of the other
restaurants in the Raleigh area.
The atmosphere at China Garden is
varied. The lunch time atmosphere is
casual. The lights are bright, and the
tables have paper placemats that fea
ture the Chinese zodiac. Patrons have
a choice of ordering from the menu or
eating from the buffet.
Dinnertime is romantic. The lights
are low, the background music is soft,
and the tables are set with cloth nap
kins and candles. Children are wel
come and are entertained by an
aquarium full of various kinds of iish.
Patrons at dinnertime can only order
from the menu.

restaurant review
The food at China Garden is supe
rior. Along with a wide variety of Chi
nese dishes, there are speciaJry items
such as China Garden St^ and Dragon
and Phoenix Platter. 1 ordered the
Sesame Beef, which consists of sliced
beef dryly sauteed with onions and
sesame seeds.
I was served enough for two and
had to ask for a doggie bag.
My husband ordered the China
Garden Special, which is a combina
tion of shrimp, beef and chicken
sauteed with seasonal vegetables in a
delightful brown sauce. He, too, had to
ask for a doggie b^.
We were too full for dessert, but
the cheesecake and fried banana were
both hard to resist.
The service at China Garden is ex
cellent. Hot tea is served to everyone,
and the waiters are always nearby,
ready to refill your glass with your
bever^e of choice.
In addition, they never let you
leave without a fortune cookie.
The prices at China Garden are
good. The luncheon menu prices rai^e
form S4.25 to S4.95, and the buffet is
usually priced about $4.50.
The dinner menu prices range form
$5.50 to $22.95.
Checks, Master Card and Visa are
accepted.
China Garden is a wonderful res
taurant for everyone. It is open Tues
day - Friday from 11 a.m. • 2 p.m. for
lunch, Sxmday - Thursday from 5 p.m.
- 9:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday
