January 25,1995 8 Campus Extras Front row seats are a must to see Boyz n Men As I looked around the nosebleed section, 1 could barely sit still. Who wouldn’t be excited to see Brandy, Babyfece and Boys II Men? The Dean Dome in Chapel Hill was jam packed as everyone anxiously waited for the concert begin. The 15-year-old singing sensation. Brandy, opened up the concert. She came bounding across the st^e in classy black suspenders and a match ing hat. Right behind were her two dancers who interpreted her words with amazing dance moves. She sang her heart out, ending with her new hit single “I Wanna Be Down.” The excitement rose when she was done as the audience awaited to hear Babyface. Finally, his band came out and be gan to play as he rose out of the stage in a suave black suit. His first number was almost impossible to hear above Kimberly Zucker concert review the screams. He did a few numbers off his old albums before he sang “As Soon As I Get Home. ” When he began this song, he walked into the audience and pulled a lady onto the stage. He began singing to her, but what he did next I did not expect. The song is about a mao making up to a women for all the wrongs that have happened to her in the past. He begantellingherthathe wanted to show her that he was truly sorry if she had ever suffered a heartache. He said that he would cook her a dirmer, but he didn’t have the time. I had no clue that he did this at every concert, so my chin was on the floor as he gave her $500. For each $100 bill he gave her, he apologized for something a man may have done to her. After witnessing all this, I will be sure to have front row seats if I ever have the chance to see him again. Next he raced off the stage to change his clothes, while his dancers and band entertained us. He came out in a white suit that matched the baby grand that was rolled out onto the stage. The band took a break while he sang a lot of the most popular R & B hits from a variety of artists. He changed once more into a blue suit and began to wind the concert down. He closed with his newest song “When Will I See You Again.” He told us that this was the perfect song to end with because he hoped he would see us again. After Babyfece’s magnificent per formance, I could not wait to hear Boys II Men. Rolling Stone M^azine named Boys II Men the best R & B group of 1994, and they are expected to only get bet ter. To win that title, they beat out the stiff competition of Janet Jackson and Babyface. At last the lights went down and Boys II Men exploded onto the stage. Dressed in bright red blazers and jeans, the foursome began singing and tear ing up the dance floor. They all moved in synch with some moves never be fore seen. After singing a few songs, they ran off the stage to change. The band played for a few minutes and then all was quiet. One of the walls slowly turned around to reveal the foursome dressed in overcoats. They began singing acapella their hit “It’s So Hard to Say Good-bye to Yesterday.” The audi ence was silent as their voices echoed and filled the coliseum. When the song was over the wall took them out of sight. However, they reappeared as they rose up from the front of the stage dressed in different colored blazers, each holding a dozed red roses. They began singing the hit off their new album, “I’ll Make Love to You.” As they sang this hit, they threw the roses out into the audience. By this time, I realized how much I was miss ing out on in my seat. They sang a few more of their most popular songs and left for the last time to change. As they came out in plaid shirts and jeans, they ended their con cert with their smash hit, “End of the Road.” For this song, they involved the audience by encouraging us to sing along. They even included a contest between the men and the women to see who could sing it the loudest. They never said, but I am sure the women won. As they took their final bows, I sat back and smiled. While I didn’t get any rent money ora rose, I enjoyed the one ofthe best concerts I’ve ever seen. If they are ever in North Carolina, I en courage you to go. I’ll see you there, but I’ll be on the front row.
