April 5,1995 Campus Extras 7 Society promotes aspects of business and employment Thinking of how you can get in volved in the comingyears at Meredith College? Sotiety for Human Resource Management (SHRM) offers an array of benefits for students upon joining the organization. With a national chapter and a state (Raleigh-Wake) chapter, Meredith also offers a local college chapter. The local chapter benefits include: speakers in various fields of Human Resource Management (HRM), employer site visits, mentor programs, and joint meetings with the NCSU chap ter and the Raleigh-Wake HRM Asso ciation. This campus organization is not only for those students who are major ing or minoring in business, but also for those who are interested in either the employer or the employee side of business. Students learn about how HR managers function and how to function with HR managers. For in stance, students learn what managers look for in a resume or an interview and what to do and what not to do in preparing for those items. So any stu dent in any field of study would gain knowledge and insight about them selves and the world in which they will work. You can get involved by attending the meetings and different functions SHRM offers. Meetings are once a month with various actwities through out the academic year. Look for fliers or other announcements to find out about the events. Ask presiding offic ers, faculty members, or the advisors (Dr. Crew and Ms. Hanner) within the Business Department at Meredith for more information. He expressed concern that m mod ern society, people think they only need to tell kids to get their anger out and not bottle it up. Children are told to “yell at trees or punch pillows,” but this does not teach them anything be cause what caused the anger is still there and will cause it again. Gandhi’s final point concerned re ligious diversity and people’s right to worship how they see fit. He grew up having prayer services involving hymns from Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, and Islaia “Religion is like a room with many windows, and we need to open all the windows and let the breeze blow in from them,” Gandhi said. At the end of his lectiure, Gandhi left the audience with the seven blun ders of the world, which his grandfa ther gave to him on their last meeting: wealth without work, pleasure with out conscience, knowledge without character, commerce without moral ity, science without humanity, wor ship without sacrifice, and politics without principles. Gandhi added an eighth blunder to his grandfather’s list: rights without responsibilities, which is the essence of his message. ALUMNAE continued from page six hear the wo nderful talent that Meredith helped her develop. Her sister even made the gown that Cooper wore for this event. As away of keeping a part of that fond memory alive, she donated that gown to Meredith’s clothing col lection, and it was displayed during the centennial. She says that she is “exceedingly” grateful to Meredith for all it gave her and that is why she has been so in volved, and that the most enjoyable part of her involvement now is that she does get to interact with the students more. photos by Jetson Spring has sprung at Meredith College, so as you walk around on your daily dash to class, don't forget to stop and smell the flowers (for real!).
