April 12,1995 Campus Extras 12 Eagles soar to new heights after l4-year vacation Finally...the Eagles arrive in Char lotte! After canceling two shows in August 1994, the Eagle played two sold out shows Friday and Saturday night at the Blockbuster Pavilion. There were people of all ages, young and old alike, with everyone having the time of their lives. The set of rustic as well as their attire. Of course, no one cared exactly what the band was wearing, because they sounded great. Don Henley’s voice was as smooth as silk, and Joe Walsh enter tained us as he strutted across the st^e in a hat made of balloons. It was evi dent that there were some serious Eagles fans in attendance, other than myself. 'There were many times when you could hear the audience singing louder than Don Henley. The show lasted for well over two hours with the Eagles returning for three encores. The t-shirts and concert Michelle Aheron concert review programs were scooped up quickly by fans, even though they were steeply priced. T-shirts went for $30, sweatshirts for $60 and concert pro grams for a whopping $18. Not to mention the big bucks that were shelled out for the season's highest priced tickets: Lawn seats were $48 and re served seats $98. The show opened at 8 p.m. with t he resounding sound of thunder, just as everyone wondered if a storm was brewing, the Eagles appeared and opened the show with “Hotel Califor nia. ” They played several songs off the “Hotel California” album before a 20- minute intermission. When they re turned, they were fired up for a set of •LOST-Canon Sure Shot Telemax Camera. Missing at Spring Formal April 8th weekend. Walsh powered out his hit “Ordi nary, Average Guy” while pictures of the band and the audience flashed on the two giant screens placed above the stage. Glenn Frey joked about his first wife as he sand “'The Girl from Yesterday” and “You Belong to the City.” Don Felder was sporting a new and quite attractive beard, while Timo thy B. Schmit hit every high note on “Love Will Keep Us Alive.” For anyone that attended the Ra leigh concert in August 1994,youdidn’t really miss much in Charlotte this year. 1 would never miss a chance to see the Eagles, don’t get me wrong, but the songs were in almost the same order, and Henley even had on the same outfit! The seating at Blockbuster is iden tical to Walnut Creek. There aren’t any really bad seats due to the large screens. I only enjoyed my seats more at Walnut Creek because they were Gold Circle seats. For the Charlotte show, a few songs were taken out of the perfor mance, such as Henley’s “New York Minute. ” However, “Take It Easy” was added as the final song following “Des perado.” 1 was glad to see the concert end on a more upbeat note. All in all, it was well worth the $98 ticket, the three hour drive and the long wait (I’ve had my tickets since November 1994). The Eagles are atime- less band and their 14-year “vacation” was time well spent. After all, who knows if they will ever tour again? FAC holds last Open Conversation by Clarky Lucas The Faculty Affairs Committee sponsored their last “Open Conver sations” yesterday in the Ledford building.
