August 23,1995 Campus Opportunities 3 Student Activities addresses students for the 1995-1996 year Hello everyone! We hope each of you is ready for a great year at Meredith. The staff in the office of Student Activities and Leadership Development would like to welcome everyone returning to Meredith and those of you who are new to the Meredith community. Also, thanks to the Orientation Crew for welcoming the freshman class by doing such an outstand ing job with Orientation! We would like to take a moment to share some information about our office and staff The Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development is the place where you can find out about how to get involved in a variety of student organiza tions at Meredith. With over 70 organizations at Meredith, you’re sure to find a group that suits your interests and needs. If you can’t find one to suit your needs, you can talk to us about starting an organization of your own. There are also over 500 leadership positions in which you can become involved and gain valuable “hands on’’ experience. Also, if you have not received your copy of the student activities calendar, be sure to pick up one Ifom our office to get the dates of impor tant events and meeting times throughout this academic year. In addition to working with the student organizations, our office offers many leadership develop ment programs at Meredith. Programs include conferences, workshops, retreats, and Emerg ing Leaders Seminar for fresh men and sophomores in the spring. Also, be sure to come by the office to check-out some materials from our Leadership Library. The Leadership Library contains books, videotapes, audio tapes, and relevant articles on leadership topics. Cheryl Jenkins, Director of Student Activities and Leader ship Development, and Marge Keyes, Office Manager, have been with the office for four years and will be entering their fifth year at Meredith. Shelly Hoover is new to the office this year and is the Assistant Direc tor of Student Activities and Leadership Development. She just graduated with a masters of Education in Student Personnel Services from the University of South Carolina at Columbia and attended the University of Kansas as an undergraduate. Shelly has enjoyed her first few weeks at Meredith, and she says that she has been impressed with all of the students, faculty, and staff Welcome Shelly!
