Student Activities addresses
students for the 1995-1996 year
Hello everyone! We hope each
of you is ready for a great year
at Meredith. The staff in the
office of Student Activities and
Leadership Development would
like to welcome everyone
returning to Meredith and those
of you who are new to the
Meredith community. Also,
thanks to the Orientation Crew
for welcoming the freshman
class by doing such an outstand
ing job with Orientation! We
would like to take a moment to
share some information about
our office and staff
The Office of Student Activities
and Leadership Development is
the place where you can find
out about how to get involved in
a variety of student organiza
tions at Meredith. With over 70
organizations at Meredith,
you’re sure to find a group that
suits your interests and needs. If
you can’t find one to suit your
needs, you can talk to us about
starting an organization of your
own. There are also over 500
leadership positions in which
you can become involved and
gain valuable “hands on’’
experience. Also, if you have
not received your copy of the
student activities calendar, be
sure to pick up one Ifom our
office to get the dates of impor
tant events and meeting times
throughout this academic year.
In addition to working with the
student organizations, our office
offers many leadership develop
ment programs at Meredith.
Programs include conferences,
workshops, retreats, and Emerg
ing Leaders Seminar for fresh
men and sophomores in the
spring. Also, be sure to come by
the office to check-out some
materials from our Leadership
Library. The Leadership Library
contains books, videotapes,
audio tapes, and relevant articles
on leadership topics.
Cheryl Jenkins, Director of
Student Activities and Leader
ship Development, and Marge
Keyes, Office Manager, have
been with the office for four
years and will be entering their
fifth year at Meredith. Shelly
Hoover is new to the office this
year and is the Assistant Direc
tor of Student Activities and
Leadership Development. She
just graduated with a masters of
Education in Student Personnel
Services from the University of
South Carolina at Columbia and
attended the University of
Kansas as an undergraduate.
Shelly has enjoyed her first
few weeks at Meredith, and
she says that she has been
impressed with all of the
students, faculty, and staff
Welcome Shelly!
